Is there any way of restoring a bag that is not real leather?

Just that really. I have a nice big bag (from New Look) made of something that looks fairly convincingly like leather, but isn't. I usually go for real leather but this was an unusual colour that I really like. I've had it about 10 years and it has a few small scuff marks. If it was leather I would probably be trying to find out if anyone does shoe polish in that colour, but it's not going to work so well on a man-made material, is it? Do I just accept that this bag has had its day, or is there anything else I might not have thought of?

The shoe polish would rub off on your clothes.

Not if I wore the scuffed side outwards which is probably how it got scuffed in the first place. But as it probably wouldn't soak in to this material, it might rub off on something.

Could you “colour in” the scuffs with a matching colour felt tip pen?
