Best shoes for wide feet?

mummytoonetryingfortwo · 16/04/2025 08:52

I have wide feet, my shoe collection has never really got off the ground. I always wear my regatta got2be trainers, or vans or boots in the winter. I have a pair of ballet flats I wear for work, but they’re getting old and ratty.

I need to sort this out as soon as possible, so can I have any and all recommendations? I need at least one pair of “fashion” trainers, some comfy trainers for walking, work shoes, a pair of low heels (closed toe)

I’ll join, mostly to see what others recommend! I am desperate for a pair of wide, closed, round-toed heels (not sandals or platforms). I used to have the most beautiful black pair in the ‘90s, which looked like Minnie Mouse shoes - if I’d known the shops would stock exclusively almond-toed shoes for the next 30 years I’d have looked after them more carefully.

anyway:

New Balance 574s are nice and wide as trainers. Nike are generally wider as well.

blundstone boots (low heel Chelsea boots) are lovely and wide. Pricey, but last for YEARS - they’re what I wear for work in the winter/autumn/spring

have yet to find a good closed-toe work shoe (as opposed to boot). I wear Birkenstocks in the summer; they do some closed-toe styles I think.

Hotter shoes are good for wide feet. But they are a bit dated.

I like new balance, but I think I prefer the chunkier trainers! I have my eye on some but they’re expensive for a pair of shoes that might not fit!

Next and New Look both have a wide fitting (as do M&S and Clarks for some sizes) simply Be have some, have you looked on something like ASOS?? I find it’s very much trial and error so be prepared to order and return if not any good…

I’ve got wide feet - last year I discovered Ara for trainers particularly the high soft range, and Pikolinos for leather sandals.

Saltwater sandals are good as they stretch to fit your feet but I find the originals a bit flat now and don’t care for the thicker sole version.

Hotter are v comfy too and come in wide fitting - but the styles are a bit hit and miss if you want something vaguely fashionable.

M&S wide fit is good if they are carrying styles you like this season (they are not for me!)

new balance tend to run wide particularly 574s but not my bag.

next’s wide fit is nice and wide but start from a 4 so too big for me (I’d need a 3.5 - annoying!)

Yeah you have to be absolutely ruthless about returning. I have about five pairs of heels that I thought might work, tried for one day/night, hobbled around in agony, and have never been worn since. With every single one of them I knew they were too narrow the moment I tried them on, but was so disappointed/in need of a shoe that I didn’t just box ‘em straight back up. It’s an expensive and stupid habit!

I hate having wide feet! It feels like nowhere caters to them either, most of the shoes are ugly

Puma trainers

I have got these recently, they do lots of different colours, they are lovely and wide and like walking air.
Clarkson unstructured range have been good too. I have to admit I only seem to do boots, trainers and sandles . A closed shoe unless basically trainers I have no luck with.

Calla shoes are wider fitting depending on how wide your feet are. I’ve also found if they are just a bit pinchy and proper leather if you get the insides hot with a hairdryer (being careful not to cause a fire of course) and cram your foot in wearing a massive thick walking sock and pad about for an hour or so a few times it does seem to stretch them out enough so you can wear them carefully after. I say this sat wearing in some silver loafers I’ve had for five years and not worn out of the house yet 🙄
I also find metallic leather softer and easier to stretch than non metallic.

I agree with Puma trainers, they are nice and wide. I avoid any trainers with a rubber toe like Converse.
Next wide fit are also good, Next also sell other wide fits brands on their website now and you can filter search results.
Some Asda trainers and sandals come up quite wide too.
I’m sure Evans and Simply Be do wide and extra wide fitting.
