Capsule wardrobe

I have a small budget - around £250-£300 to revamp my wardrobe and I'd like to begin a capsule wardrobe. However I'm terrible at shopping.

Is there a website or service where you can buy a capsule wardrobe in one click, without having to individually purchase items?

Following as I would totally buy one if I could!

I’ve seen them for kids, is there a gap in the market for adults?!

The retailers are missing a trick here.

You could perhaps sort out your existing wardrobe (sell anything in good condition on EBAY or Vinted to raise some cash and clear some space) and note down what still works for you and what you think you might need most and book an appointment with a John Lewis personal shopper (you don’t need to buy anything but you may want to buy a couple of things and use the insights/ideas to source cheaper alternatives elsewhere).

To feel more put together I could really do with a recommendation for a tan, mid brown tote or hobo style bag with comfy strap/straps and some comfortable trainer style shoes in a toning or neutral colour with good arch support, comfy insoles and good cushioning at the heels.

There’s a US brand that offers a service like that. It doesn’t matter that I can’t recall their name, because it costs really quite a lot. And the clothes are dull. I think there’s also at least one subscription service in the UK where you’re sent a selection of things each month. Though it may have closed down.

Do you really not feel it would be a deadening way to acquire a wardrobe? When there are so many brands that have quite carefully curated collections where everything goes together?

What sort of lifestyle do you need to dress for? City office, a cycling commute, village dog walking, working from home? Your budget could buy several things from Uniqlo, or three or four from Cos, or one thing to start you off from Studio Nicholson. Or perhaps two dresses from Palava. Community Clothing might be perfect for a casual wardrobe. Or Toast, if you limited yourself to the sales.

This is great for ideas.

I purchased a couple of things yesterday although I probably should have gone through my wardrobe first. I am going to be ruthless and try to sell what I don’t wear, no longer like or doesn’t fit so I can see the wood for the trees.

Thinking to bring things together I could still do with

a go anywhere bag
some wide leg jeans
some smart casual neutral coloured trousers
some versatile neutral jewellery
