How would you style this dress?

It’s quite thick jersey. I have a similar dress (different pattern - mine is light teal with birds on) but I never know what to wear it with. It’s not warm enough to go bare legs and sandals, I have short legs so trainers with it make me look frumpy. I end up wearing black leggings, which don’t quite look right, and Doc Martens, and a black cardigan which again is not the right colour. I like dresses - they’re more comfortable than trousers / jeans, with my mum tum - but I never know what to wear them with as I find tights itchy and uncomfortable, and never find the right shoes either!

Have you tried cotton tights? I don't find them anywhere near as uncomfortable as the regular ones, and they come in a variety of colours (including teal!) Patty Plain Versatile Cotton Tights in DK TEAL | White Stuff

I tend to wear boots with dresses and skirts - ankle, mid calf, or knee high - unless it’s warm enough for loafers, mules, or sandals. With socks.

But surely longer dresses would work better for you, in general?

Ankle boots or knee boots in autumn, with slight heels. I usually wear leggings snd socks with boots as they are more comfortable than tights.

Bare legs and wedge sandals in summer.

It looks terrible with those white trainers, although I think trainers look terrible with dresses any way.

I don't like that length but if I were wearing that dress, then opaque tights in any colour that's in the dress and flat lace up ankle or chelsea boots. Fairisle cardigan picking up any colour on the dress or a cropped, boxy jumper.

If it's too warm for that good quality sheer tights and flat navy, red, cream, pink or brown ballet pumps or Mary Janes. I don't like bare legs unless it's really hot. If it's really hot same type of shoe or fisherman's sandal and ankle socks.

I don’t like dresses with trainers generally. I do like that style of dress. I’d wear that with ankle boots, combat boots, chunky Dr Marten sandals, or knee high boots. If cold I’d wear a leather jacket with it. I’d generally do bare legs (with fake tan, lol), or thin tights.

I quite like low tops with those kinds of dresses in warmer weather. Makes a change from trainers.

Please don’t do any of this - you’ll look like a “zany” children’s tv presenter.

The length is quite awkward. The same style of dress but one that sits above the knee would be easier to style and look better with lots of different types of shoes.

Nonsense.

Although I agree it's an awkward length.
