Make up advice

I feel stupid even having to write this post as I’m 46 and should be able to do make up by now but I was always pretty rubbish at it and haven’t really worn any since the pandemic. Have a wedding to go to next weekend and feel like I ought to look like I’ve tried but can’t spend a fortune. Are there any shops people can recommend who will colour match me an easy to use foundation and maybe an eyeshadow, possible with a bit of advice on how to apply. I was thinking maybe John Lewis or boots but am very intimidated by make up counters so not sure it’s a good idea. I like the look of highlighters too but never used them. What basics would you suggest for a beginner to look fairly natural.

Elf do an £8 foundation that looks like it could fit the bill https://www.boots.com/elf-soft-glam-satin-foundation-10352829?awaid=2041&utm_source=redbrain&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=css&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADA7Q_IvihjXkAUid_VAmoEe29Qqs&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkbWNqoLVjAMVjJpQBh3pcDGYEAQYASABEgJf8_D_BwE I recommend that you go to a big Boots and ask them to try it on you (I believe they do have people that do this type of thing as they tried the Chanel bronzing cream on me and showed me hot to apply it). I would then suggest maybe this palette https://www.amazon.co.uk/Collection-Shadow-Palette-Parisian-Pinks/dp/B08W6CCSYF which I use for a natural look and then maybe a Bourjois blusher which you can get at Superdrug. I use a cheap clear mascara as a brow gel ( look at Boots 17 or Collection) as for a highlighter, L’Oréal do cream stick ones.

I went to the Clinique counter in M&S and a lovely middle aged woman understood my skin woes and sorted me out a foundation that made me look ten years younger. I’d been wearing the wrong tone plastered on elf foundation I’d picked up in Superdrug.

Selfridge’s do a good makeover where they take off the cost of any make up you buy and it is also applied during the makeover. £30 if I remember correctly and a glass of bubbly.

Thank you - could I know the name of this magic foundation?

Bobbi Brown are good, you can book your make up lesson via their website too.

Yep it was NEW Even Better Clinical™ Vitamin Makeup Foundation SPF 50
combined with their luminous primer. It gave a much lighter, more natural finish. I also thought I was neutral colouring but she told me I was cool, so that helped.
