Mascara and SPF for watery eyes - please help!

Can anyone recommend a mascara that works with watering eyes, please? (The issue is not from the mascara as it occurs even if I am not wearing any.) My eyes water very often, it's a constant struggle. Worse when it's cold and windy but in general I cannot walk (30mins) to work without my tears flowing at some point. I have tried so many mascaras have about 20 half empty tubes but can't find the one that works and I love.
I prefer bigger brushes to silicon spikes and tube neck that does remove the excess mascara from the brush BUT the main thing is to whitstand the watering eyes so I am willing to try not just my preference. I have tried loads of different types sweat proof, smudge proof, waterproof, silicon or brush. I just want something that covers my light coloured lashes without clumps and does not melt off my face. Anyone with similar issues and found a mascara that works? I don't wear contacts, but wear glasses, use only mascara and eyeliner for makeup usually, so without the mascara I feel naked.
SPF makes my eyes water as well, so any recommendations for that are welcome too. It's mainly issue on holiday, so suspect SPF and the heat/sweat...

You might find a lash tint (and lash lift- although you could just curl your lashes) works better for you than mascara. There are diy kits you can get, or you can get it done by a beautician, but they tend to last around 4-6 weeks and wouldn't run.

For moisturiser, try Boots SPF+ Vitamin C Moisturising Lotion SPF50 50ml - Boots- because it's in moisturiser it might not have the same effect.

I have watery eyes and I use Lancôme Doll Eyes Waterproof version: it’s pretty good! I’ve repurchase it several times.

stayathomer · 12/04/2025 16:16

I have slightly watery eyes and have found glossier good, but as I said they only slightly water

My eyes water a lot and I have found Victoria beckham mascara to be the best

CMOTDibbler · 12/04/2025 21:21

Elf tubing mascara. I am a convert to this from the No7 tubing as it is cheaper and more lash lengthening but does also not shift at all.
spf: la Roche possum or Ultraviolette

Have you tried tubing mascara? It's been a game changer for me. My eyes water less since using it too. I use the Beauty Pie one. It stays put all day, no smudging.

VanillaImpulse · 12/04/2025 21:35

Agree with Lancôme doll eyes waterproof. Good for watery eyes but I find it does smudge if I have moisturiser around eyes

Branster · 12/04/2025 21:36

As the first PP suggested, I also think a lash tint might work for you.
I don't have watery eyes as you described, but a lot of SPF products sting my eyes.
The only one I found not cause me any irritation whatsoever is Ultrasun. I use the SPF 50 for face anti pigmentation version. You only need to apply once a day on clean dry skin. Always on offer, I never bought at full price.

Tubing mascara for me - sobbed through a funeral with it (didn’t think about that when I’d got ready) was expecting to look like Alice cooper coming out but it didn’t budge

I have this exact problem, my eyes are streaming outside. This has worked well for me, from amazon:
L'Oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara Black Waterproof, Gives Lashes Intense, Defined Volume with No Clumps

Another vote for Beauty Pie tubing mascara. I never use anything else and it's stayed put on my watery hay fevery eyes!

I forgot to mention spf. I've tried a few, but always come back to La Roche Posay Anthelios spf50. No eye irritation and doesn't make me break out.

Dunkou · 13/04/2025 07:09

Elf Tubing and La Roche Posay. Tried a few tubing and that’s the best for me, and La Roche Posay is the first spf I’ve had that doesn’t sting my eyes.

Bigfish51 · 13/04/2025 07:14

It sounds like you actually have dry eyes. Hycosan eye drops cured me of this problem. I can wear any mascara now. Non of the cheaper eye drops worked.

Another vote for tubing mascara. I'm using Beauty Pie at the moment but there are lots of good ones out there including Clinique and No7. The new Elf one is meant to be good.

La Roche Posay and Vichy sunscreens are all good. Make sure you get the ones designed for the face as they're less likely to irritate eyes. I also like the L'Oréal bright reveal spf50. I use it close to my eyes and it doesn't sting. Packaging says it is safe to use on eye area. It's often on offer in Boots.

WhereAreWeNow · 13/04/2025 07:26

Ps. All those sunscreens are in the skincare/beauty section at Boots, not the holidays/suncream section.

Maybelline sky high mascara is fabulous and great for my hay fevery watery eyes and holds up to a good cry at a funeral too.

I've yet to find an SPF I can wear on my face .

Thank you very much for all the recommendations.

I previously tried loads of well loved mascaras with a lot a hype around them but with disappointing results for me. But I guess they might be brilliant for others but they just wouldn't suit my requirements, I must stop being so easily influenced.

I am creating a list and I'll start testing one by one. Hopefully I will find at least one product that works for me.

The lash tint is a good idea as well, I haven't had one for probably 20 years, I'll look into it.

There were some suggestions about tubing mascara, how do you know which ones are that type?

If you search 'tubing mascara' on mumsnet, you'll find some threads with lots of recommendations @SleepyHeadWithMessyHair

Clinique Lash Power and Biore Watery Essence are perfect for my sensitive dry eyes that run at the drop of a hat.

AmberHoney · 18/06/2025 15:26

Clinique works a treat!
