What’s the most you’d spend for an item on Vinted?

I’ve always had a £20 limit, so if something went wrong I hadn’t lost too much. Someone is selling a jacket that retails for £350 (think posh high st brand) for £85. It’s this season, I’ve seen it in real life. I’m trying to decide whether £85 is too much to risk on Vinted item. Curious if others have a max price.

I don’t imagine it’s fake, I don’t think the brand is popular enough to be worth faking. My concern is always rubbish condition

£100ish

stayathomegardener · 11/04/2025 20:19

More if it’s an item I have already loved and know the fit.

Lovelysummerdays · 11/04/2025 20:22

I am also a £20 limit person. I did splurge £30 on a monsoon coat which was fine but wouldn’t really want to go higher.

henlake7 · 11/04/2025 21:02

Yup, usually £20 for me too. Only time I spent more was for a cardigan I really wanted that was BNWT at £27 (no regrets, I love it!).
I would be checking reviews carefully if I wanted to spend more.

Tiegs · 11/04/2025 21:05

It could be fake tho there ade really good fakes out there

Annoyingsquirrels · 11/04/2025 21:09

I spent £200 on a coat. It still had its original tags though and the seller said that it had not been worn. It would have been £400 to purchase it new.

I was a bit worried about the sizing but it turned out to be perfect and I was really pleased with it.

ShaunaSadeki · 11/04/2025 21:10

About £40 unless I had been to a shop and tried on the item or new the sizing b we’ll and the seller had good reviews, then up to about 60% of the cost to buy it new. Although DS and I both bought exactly the same pair of trainers (without knowing) both brand new without tags, for the same price and mine are perfect and his are clearly fake as they have fallen to bits already.

Newbestmate · 11/04/2025 21:13

I spent £100 on a trench coat NWT worth £250. I’d seen in store and tried on so knew I liked it and I was confident the seller was legit.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 11/04/2025 22:15

I sell on vinted things that are probably more expensive such as higher end high street me + em etc.. I always say to people who are concerned about sizing etc maybe try in shop first to check. I also sell on eBay and am very happy to accept returns if they don’t fit which is easier for the customer than Vinted is

£100 - I think it’s fine to go higher as they tend to favour the buyer ?

TartanMammy · 12/04/2025 01:34

Check the reviews and the other kinds items they are selling.

I'm usually £10 limit on vinted, but I can see how that coat is tempting.

Vinted favour the seller. eBay favour the buyer.

Almost impossible to get your money back from vinted if the item is received but poor condition or fake.

DaphneduM · 12/04/2025 02:36

The most I've spent on a single item is £50. And only twice. These items were absolutely perfect - an Etro leather trimmed canvas shopper (latest version £1000 new) and a Maje embroidered cardigan - both good as new and stunning, unusual pieces.

The thing with Vinted is, you can easily spend so much on random purchases - you think 'oh, it's only £5' but then by the time you've added on postage and buyers protection it's nearer £9 and if you're doing that often then these little purchases add up to quite a lot of money. This is something I'm aware I'm guilty of.

That said, I've had some lovely things and it's enabled me to experiment with a different style for little overall cost.

For more expensive designer clothes I prefer to shop new - T K Maxx have some good discounts - and it's easy to get a refund if you don't like it - whereas the Vinted returns process is convoluted and not worth the bother.

fleetoriginal · 12/04/2025 09:01

As a seller you are quite well protected, better than buyers. If the item doesn’t fit the description you can return it fairly easily. I spent £45 on some Doc Martens which were perfect, a great bargain!
As others have said, check the reviews first.

I find the opposite. I’ve easily done returns on items. Twice the seller has sent me the wrong item (posted out a few at once I’m guessing) and it’s been super easy to refund me without a hassle.
Once as a seller I had someone kick up a fuss about the condition of a pair of leggings (they were as I had described them). They got a refund instantly (fine) but I had to fund the return which I was annoyed about as the item wasn’t mis-advertised as the buyer had claimed.
So in my experience the buyers have the advantage.

Reddelilah · 12/04/2025 11:01

But doesn’t the buyer have to pay to return an item?

So buyers are paying 1) for postage to receive item and 2) for return postage?

Sulu17 · 12/04/2025 11:08

If the item was sold out elsewhere, I would pay anything just short of the shop price. It depends on things that others have said. I have sold expensive items for £100 and the buyer got a right bargain., but I have worked hard to keep my reviews really positive.

HundredMilesAnHour · 12/04/2025 11:15

I’ve spent £200 on a dress on Vinted. But it’s a designer brand I know VERY well so I closely examined all the photos (especially the labels etc) as well as the seller’s reviews first, and I know the sizing fits me perfectly. The dress would have been over £1000 new.

When it arrived, it was perfect and I was very happy. But I am very careful looking at photos etc and if I have any doubts, I keep well clear.

HangingOver · 12/04/2025 11:15

£240

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 12/04/2025 11:16

Just think how much you would be comfortable paying and offer that.

anon2022anon · 12/04/2025 11:28

I've spent £95 on some Tom Ford perfume, and around £65 on a dress, and a bundle of 3 items for £120. I've sold things for over £100 too

OvaHere · 12/04/2025 11:54

About £50 is my limit and mostly under £20. This goes for buying and selling. Don't invest more than you can bear to lose is my rule.

Vinted is great overall for clearing out cheaper stuff you don't need or buying low cost items but Vinted support is virtually non existent, in my experience trying to report an issue sends you in circles with a chat bot. So whether you're the buyer or the seller there's a strong chance you'll be stuck with a loss if something goes wrong with a sale or you run in to a scammer.

NotGalinda · 12/04/2025 11:55

Thanks, I’ve gone for it. I know it fits, and I had got very close to buying from the shop. But am fed up with them anyway due to being difficult about a return previously, so happier to buy from Vinted

OP posts:
Nc500again · 12/04/2025 11:58

£200 - my DM who has a lot of designer clobber that she buys and then goes off a few years later puts it on Vinted and it sells, usually to people very happy as they’ve got Max Mara or Gucci that’s Ben sitting in a wardrobe for a year or two unworn or worn once or twice…

daffodilandtulip · 12/04/2025 11:58

Clothes, only a few quid. But I buy educational wooden toys for work and would spend half the RRP, so up to £100 for some items. I check reviews and their other items first but I don't think it's an area for scams (hopefully!).
