Help - burlesque ceilidh

I’ve got tickets to attend the Glasgow Festival of Burlesque: Burlesque Ceilidh on 25th April and have no idea what to wear! I’m a 10/12 pear shape and have lost my confidence. Is a little black dress and heels acceptable? Too much? Not interesting enough?

What would you wear?

I would wear a basque and fishnets to the party!

LBD and heels sounds fine, esp if you arent that confident.
You could always chuck a feather boa in your bag to whip out if you are feeling too plain!

Thanks both! I’ll definitely be having a rethink. Love the feather boa idea

LBD or
black waistcoat with a black leather skirt or
corset top with full skirt (shades of can-can style)
Accessorise with a choker, fishnets, heels and opera gloves.
Maybe fix a small ostrich feather in your hair with a sparkly brooch/clip.

Or
Dinner jacket (pinch the waist in with pins or a belt)
Fishnets & heels
(shades of Judy Garland singing Get Happy)

I have only limited experience of burlesque but ceilidh dance as often as possible. The only strict code for a ceilidh is soft shoes so than there is no damage if anyone’s feet get trampled on.

I have no way to know whether the burlesque or the ceilidh code would win out here and would probably hedge my bets and take a pair of soft shoes just in case.

it sounds fabulous, have a great time and please let us know how it went.

PowderRoom · 20/04/2025 11:34

Sorry, OP, no advice (though the soft shoes are a good point, so no one gets impaled doing ‘Strip the Willow’), but ‘burlesque céilidh’ is such a mad combination. Like ‘heavy metal ballet’ or ‘Regency hiphop’.

Oo love a ceilidh!! Always think these.would be a great fitness class! Reel of the 51st, Flying Scotsman Military Twostep!

chesterelly1 · 20/04/2025 17:59

I’d say mini-kilt, available in any tartan gift shop and a bustier style top.
@CaptainFuture check for Highland Hustle classes for a ceilidh/highland dance style keepfit class

CaptainFuture · 20/04/2025 18:03

Oh thanks @chesterelly1 ! Will look into that!
