So I posted before with my dodgy waistcoat and shorts combo. Trying again! I got these jeans and boots. Obviously not with the denim jacket but thought with some kind of nice top and cropped jacket might work?

I know a bit casual for racing but I’m happy with that approach!

@mylittledoggie I go racing a lot! White jeans are no issue at all! People readily comment who know very little. Cheltenham would be fine with the jeans. Just wear a shirt and jacket with them. Dont wear sandals anywhere. Racing is pretty relaxed now unless it’s a smart day at Chester, York or Ascot. I’m a member at Cheltenham and you can wear anything with jeans but you just need to consider the weather! When I say anything, I do mean a decent top, eg a knitted linen one or cashmere, not a skimpy night club one! If you are staying for a concert make sure you will be warm enough.

@mylittledoggie just copy one of these. You cannot go wrong!

I go racing a lot too..Ascot, York, Cheltenham, Goodwood…but I wouldn’t wear that

All looks I posted are all Holland Cooper. Defends on age. Loads of people are wearing jackets and blazers with white jeans. She’s not got the Spanish riding boots! I specifically said NOT to wear jeans at the smart days but most racing days are not. Cheltenham members would not give a second look at any of those outfits. Goodwood isn’t that smart even at the Festival but if you were in one of the hospitality areas you wouldn’t wear jeans. The op has posted what the racecourse says and this isn’t Royal Ascot! It’s not a smart day anywhere judging by the dress code so what you wear to Ascot etc is beside the point. It’s this racecourse and this race day that matter and the fashion sense of the op who has bought an expensive pair of jeans. They are easy to wear and will be fine.,

You look nice but not sure why you don’t just wear a nice dress or jumpsuit!?

TizerorFizz · 11/04/2025 23:21

Hardly anyone wears a jumpsuit. Impractical for a start. Racing doesn’t need a dress. Well unless it Liverpool then the skimpier the better. Everywhere else unless a major smart meeting is going far more casual. Suits many of us really well. The jeans can easily go with a decent top with a jacket or coat. If it’s Hospitality or a smart day at Chester then wear a dress. If it’s end of jumps season at Sandown, white jeans are fine.

Thank you @TizerorFizzyou are getting my vibe! For what it’s worth we are going to Newbury and in a box (flat), but could have equally been going to Uttoxeter where I’d be 100% confident in my jean choice! I’m a country / horsey person.

@mylittledoggie I know where you are coming from - we go point to pointing many weekends. Newbury isn’t particularly smart. The shirt with a jacket look is fine or you could try a knit top if it’s wet or chilly.A tweed jacket (as in the blue example) is available in lots of shops. Crew and Mango have similar. Also Whistles and Sosander. John Lewis have quite a few that are similar to the HC blue one. Zara has loads of suitable jackets. Nothing wrong with a sand coloured suede jacket if you have one.

(I’m not keen on the waistcoat trend, but if you love it, go for it) - I just think a jacket and top look better.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 12/04/2025 08:59

Even at Ascot, you can wear jeans! There is no formal dress code accept in hospitality. You are just encouraged to dress up and most people do.

Royal Ascot is a different thing entirely.

I used to go all the time (Royal and non Royal) and much prefered non Royal Ascot racedays because it was less formal.

Sunnyside4 · 12/04/2025 09:32

We've been in a box at Cheltenham overlooking the finishing line (luckily won tickets to a free box on a main race meeting!). Admittedly everyone else in the box had won tickets, but one couple turned up in ordinary blue jeans and he had a rugby shirt on, she had an ordinary t-shirt (no cardigan, jacket or coat). We were in a box near to JP McManus and they were admitted. So the fact you're wearing something nice and the jeans are smart, you'll be fine. Honest, just go and enjoy your day.

TizerorFizz · 12/04/2025 17:42

@XxSideshowAuntSallyx Ascot sees itself as a smart destination but on many days (especially jumps racing) you would look out of place if you looked too smart. I’m in the seats near the finish line at Cheltenham and can see the boxes clearly. More drinking than worrying about what people look like. Boxes are hospitality but you don’t need to be smarter than the ideas I posted.

@mylittledoggie Was it Newbury today?

mylittledoggie · 12/04/2025 18:32

No ages away yet! I’m planning early! I’m not sure what to do. Will have a think. Maybe going to actual shops might be helpful.
