Pedicure with a verruca?

F33t · 09/04/2025 16:15

Gross question, sorry!!

I have a verruca. All of the treatments say don't use when pregnant without medical advice so I don't want to use them or bother the GP (if someone who actually knows wants to tell me they're fine, please do!!) (I'm 7 months pregnant).

I really need a pedicure. Can I go or is that completely unacceptable?

They’re highly contagious so no you should not expose a pedicure technician or the facility to a verruca.

Most treatments are over the counter and topical, I am sure you can ask the pharmacist in private.

shivermetimbers77 · 09/04/2025 20:18

No please don’t do that to the pedicurist.. speak to a pharmacist or your GP about treatment options and wait a while for that pedicure.

BelfastBard · 09/04/2025 20:55

No. Unless the person you’re going to is an actual podiatrist who will also treat the verucca I think it would be very bad form to expect someone to work with your feet with a highly contagious verucca.

RentalWoesNotFun · 09/04/2025 21:29

You can presumably freeze them off while pregnant?

My GP does them. Don’t know if you’re pregnant though but I don’t see why not. Just go bother the gp.

When my children have verrucas I treat them with tea tree oil. A couple of drops on a bit of a cotton wool pad and put that on the verruca and put a plaster on. Replace it daily. I’ve got rid of a verruca in two weeks with that method. You might want to research it yourself, but I do believe tea tree oil is safe for topical use in pregnancy.

You can't get treatment on the NHS for verrucas. Some of us have them that last for years and years and don't respond to treatment. You're not even meant to wear verruca socks swimming any more. But yes most pedicurists won't treat people that have verrucas so i guess you have to do one your self at home sadly.

I would go to a podiatrist and have all the hard skin on my feet removed, then go to a salon just for a file / polish and keep flip flops on.
You could also ask a pharmacist about bazooka etc to see about using in pregnancy.

Thanks all - Mumsnet has spoken!

@SendTheNextOneIn thanks for the tea tree oil tip. I'll try that first and if not, brave the pharmacy!

I had a verruca clear up with a Covid vaccine. You could try that if you're due one?
