Colour ideas for family photo on farm

I would like to have a professional photographer come and do some family photos on our farm this Summer.

I'm unsure of what to wear though. I don't want us to be matching, but to compliment each other.

I am thinking an A-Line dress for me, I have a size 14 and not happy with my tummy right now. It will need to be button down/ similar as I want to have a breast feeding picture. I am 5'6 dark brown hair and hazel eyes.

DH is 6'3 dark red hair and green eyes. Has a small 'beer belly' even though he doesn't drink! But in general tall and muscled. I'm thinking jeans and a solid colour polo?

Boys will be nearly 3 and nearly 1. 3yr old has a lighter red hair, very blue eyes. 1yr old still hardly has hair what is there looks brown unless the light hits it and it looks red. Eyes are a mix of brown/ green/ blue

Grandparents will be asked to be in the pics. I just want to give them a colour direction.

IMO, group pics look nicer with a colour theme, not all matching the exact, same outfit. It sounds like green would go with everyone's colouring. So, you could have a dress with say emerald green in it/flowers etc, 1 boy has an emerald green T-shirt (or a pic of the front with green on it), the other boy say green shorts, DH could have similar coloured green shoes or a cap, someone could have a green cardigan or something over their shoulders etc. You can then wear white/cream/beige as the other colour.

Just a thought- I'm not a photographer though.

Thanks. DH actually always says green really suits me. No I don't want us all matching either, but I would like a co-ordinated look not sure that's the right word! I also want the clothes to be something we will wear again.

Have a look at other family portraits or work your photographer has done. Have you asked your photographer for ideas?

I think you can be co ordinated without matching. We once had photos done where DD wore peach, DS1 light teal, I had lavender blue on, DS2 denim dungarees and beige top, dh navy T shirt. It just so looked lovely together.

I think with your colouring I would have some splashes of red like one DS in red T shirt. Maybe a rust brown, golden yellow. Denim looks great with most things. Don't do everyone in various greens.

I've been trawling pintrest. A good tip I got was to pick my outfit first then match the family to me. I like this:

I think it should suit me, my ''bad'' part right now is my lower tummy (bellybutton) not 100% on the boots with it, but I actually have very similar ones already.

Baby, toddler could match this maybe - https://www.marksandspencer.com/ie/2pc-pure-cotton-dungaree-outfit-0-12-mths-/p/clp60707990#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r7c4

DH has a polo very similar to this - https://www.marksandspencer.com/ie/slim-fit-premium-cotton-polo-shirt/p/clp60543814?color=DARKNAVY

From your description of your family colouring I would say that you would all suit 'peacock' colours, rich jewel like greens, blues and amethyst.
You could also add a contrasting colour, a bright flash of burnt orange or bright turquoise perhaps.
Coordinating colours will definitely give your pictures a feeling of unity, as will the groupings created by the photographer, for instance they might like all the subjects holding one another, which will be natural with your small children.

Look at several local photographers before you choose one. Have a great day! 📸
