Nails wrecked after 2 weeks of gels - is this normal?

I never get my nails done but decided to give gels a go prior to a fortnight's holiday last month. They looked fab for a good 2 weeks, then started to chip so I went to have them removed. The nail tech used a drill for the whole removal process, which surprised me as I thought acetone was involved.

My nails are now destroyed - paper thin, bendy and breaking at the slightest pressure. Is this normal after gels?! And how do I fix them? I've cut them as short as I possibly can but they're still breaking. And so weak, I couldn't get the foil lid off a milk bottle earlier!

Do not go back to that nail technician . A drill should not have gone near you nails if was just a gel nail

They don’t wreck your nails if they are removed and properly. I’ve had gel for years and every now and then I go gel free and my nails are fine, because they use acetone for removal, not the drill. The drill is laziness and destroys your nails.

You’ve just went to a bad place unfortunately.

Nails Inc Gel Rehab is very good for protecting your nails while they grow back. It also makes them look a lot better.

Also a nail oil twice a day: I use Essie apricot oil for a few days a week when I’m not using Gel Rehab.

Aaargh, that's what I suspected. I was recommended the salon by a friend who gets back to back gels so god knows what her nails look like underneath!

Any advice on restoring the nail health fast? Thank you EVHead for Nails Inc recommendation, I'll definitely try that.

Going against the grain… I’ve had gels at many different places over the years, none of them have used a drill and my nails have always been wrecked by them afterwards. It just makes them really soft and damaged. I use Rimmel nail rescue on them and top up with a fresh coat every other day afterwards and gradually they come back to life.
