Teeth Whitening - do you have to do it over and over again if you don't get great results?

I had teeth whitening about 10 years ago, or whenever it became more of a thing for the first time and was pretty underwhelmed by the results. I think I had it again about 7 years ago wondering if I'd maybe just got a dud formula or dentist but again I got pretty underwhelming results. I read something recently suggesting that some people do it much more regularly and they feel they get a cumulative effect. These were Americans on social media though. Just wondering if there's anything to this suggestion - if I did much more of it would m y teeth eventually be whiter? They've always been pretty yellow despite the fact I don't eat curries more than very occasionally and don't drink tea, coffee or red wine.

I purchased a boutique whitening kit from my dentist, the yellowness went completely after 5 days of using it at night and now I use it once every 3-4 months whenever I notice them going dull. I’ve had the kit for 16 months now and I’m onto my last syringe so I’d definitely say it’s been worth it xx

I'm 2 1/2 week into 4 of a boutique whitening kit bought from my dentist. £400.
Perhaps it's been such a gradual change that I can't notice, but I'm not impressed with the results.
I have a check up this week and my dentists can show me the 'before' photos, so maybe I'll feel slightly more enthused then.

You don’t need it - start using hydrogen peroxide as a mouth rinse instead - saves your teeth at the same time. Results are slowish but you do get them - 3% at pharmacy. It’s like £1.50 a bottle.

I have very white teeth for my age from doing this for the past few years but more importantly my gums and teeth are in good nick despite the fact that there’s probably more metal in my mouth than anything else 🙄

Is this entirely good for you?

Can’t say I noticed much of a difference with mine. My problem is more thin enamel that lets the dentin beneath shine through rather than stains.

I started whitening trays at night, through dentist, nearly 2 weeks ago. I haven’t done it every night but my teeth are definitely whiter. I feel much more confident smiling in photos. Grin

What’s the mouthwash called? Thanks

Summerhillsquare · 31/03/2025 23:10

Hydrogen peroxide is bleach...must be unpleasant as a mouthwash!

I have this issue too - and now so does my DD!
