Hair is gone

Chemo has finally killed my hair.
What would you all be putting on your head? Because for me, IRL, all I’m getting is “ Oh I can’t imagine losing my hair” ( well try!!)

Wigs are too hot.
I don’t suit hats, caps or scarves.
I don’t “ rock” being bald.

Any ideas please? ( I realise I haven’t made this easy for myself!)
Thanks.

I am really sorry you are in this position. I would hate it too but hope the chemo is doing what it should and killing the cancer cells as well as your hair.

I have no constructive advice for the short term but your hair will return and when it does you will quickly have a chic pixie cut.

In your shoes, I'd suck up the baldness to avoid the discomfort of hats, wigs and scarves in the knowledge it's a temporary albeit unfair and horrid blip.

I think you should do what makes you feel best. Massages, pedi's, facials.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 23/03/2025 10:27

I'm sorry you're having to receive treatment and have lost your hair. You seem to have ruled everything you could wear out, unless you would try some sort of soft headband or you're looking for recommendations for wigs that don't make your head hot?

Are you able to say whether it's not having hair or your head feeling cold or exposed which is your biggest concern?

Enigma53 · 23/03/2025 10:37

Thanks. It’s weird because if I thought people were not going to stare, I would just wear nothing on my head. It is a bit cold though ( even on a nice day!) I shouldn’t worry about what people think, I know; it’s very hard.

I’m just fuming right now. This is the second time cancer has taken my hair. The first time, I was many years younger and suited hats etc. Now I’m fifties and post menopausal.

Maybe I will buy some fun wigs and nice make up.

Thanks again.

amazon does chemo hats which are very soft and some of them are pretty. I had a black one and like you u don’t suit hats- I hate wearing hats but this one was ok. I’m sure other places must make chemo hats but I found amazon cheap and convenient and comfy- I had a very itchy scalp but this was ok

I wore soft cotton jersey beany hats as I don’t like the scarf look, and I was constantly worried that my wig would fall off so only wore that about 3 times. Sometimes I would wear the beany under a fedora if I wanted a more stylish look. Always had lots of compliments.

After a while I felt brave enough to go without a hat if it was warm enough, and I got lots of compliments then as well.

I wish you all the best for your journey through this vile disease.

I'm so sorry op and wish you a good recovery and hair growth. And I hope you stay mad - anger is good, I'd be mad as hell.

I'd wear a bandanna and channel Rosie the Riveter, although I know you've said you don't like scarves. And lots of lipstick.

The other thing I'd do is wear something distinctive away from my head to distract the eye e.g. big chunky rings, fierce shoes etc.

I’m sorry. I have hair loss, possibly a couple of suggestions -

Human hair wigs tend to be less hot than synthetic, and some wigs are ‘lighter’ than others, Ellen Wille is one brand which are less ‘heavy’.

I know you said you don’t suit hats (neither do I really without some hair under, my face is too angular even when younger), but you can get hats with added hair. Or even better if you can tolerate it on your head, you get something called a ‘Hair Halo’ which is like a ring with hair added which is designed to be worn with hats or scarves. Shouldn’t be too hot at all, and may give the face framing you need to suit hats/scarves better. Human hair one likely more natural. Like this -

You are genius, Thank you!!
I will certainly get searching now.
You’ve hit the nail on the head ( no pun intended!) It’s the absence of any hair at all, which makes the hats and beanies look odd.

I do have an Ellen Wille wig. It’s lovely, but despite my hairdresser trimming and shaping it, it’s just not “ me”.

What do you wear on your head mainly?

Going to have a good look at hair halos, as they do sound good 😊

Thanks again.

Anger is fierce! Once was bad, twice is horrific.

I am not sure if this will help as it isn’t something you’ve raised as an issue. But a close friend found that losing her eyebrows was as upsetting her hair. She had some semi-perm micro/blading make-up on them and she said she had much more confidence from just doing that. She did look great as it defined her face and she felt she could rock the bald look with more confidence.
pricey though, I think she spent £350.

best of luck to you. Such a difficult time. I hope this is the last of it. Flowers

I do still have my eyebrows ( just)
Lashes are sparse and pubic hair has also gone completely.

I have heard that micro blading could be a good investment with decent results.

All good wishes to your friend 🌼
It’s just horrid.
