Has anyone had the hairline on their neck lasered?

I hate, hate, HATE my hairline on the nape of my neck. At the sides it’s so low it’s nearly at the top of my shoulders, but the hair is coarse and wispy and doesn’t grow more than a few inches so whenever I have my hair up I end up with these hideous whiskers either side of my neck. I’ve tried hairspray and grips and stuff but it still looks so ugly. Thinking of getting it lasered once and for all- has anyone done this?

I guess that’s a no

Very few people have hair pronounced enough that such things would be noticeable to anyone else.

Typically, when I've met people who are fixated on hair like this on their bodies, it's been perfectly normal and they've just developed a hang up about it. Also can look odd once it's removed.

Unless you are really very darkly hirsuit, then, kindly, this probably isn't the issue you've come to believe it is.

That said, no judgement if you choose to get it lasered.

I hate mine and would love to have it done
Not particularly low but pubic in nature 😫
I shave it every couple of days as I almost always wear my hair in a bun

TeaRoseTallulah · 23/03/2025 12:50

Why would this even be a thing? I can't say I've ever looked at anyone and sucked my breath in at the level of her hairline.

WhyDoesItAlways · 23/03/2025 13:38

Have you tried shaving it off first? I only suggest this as I have sideburns that I absolutely hate so I shaved them off and it looked so weird that I actually now don't mind my little sideburns. Basically don't consider anything permanent until you're sure!

HaroldMeaker · 23/03/2025 15:00

I haven’t had this done, no, but I don’t see why not? Surely that’s the point of lasering unwanted hair - to get rid of unwanted hair!

I used to but I only ended up with loads of spots instead, and it’s hard to do right when I can’t really see properly, even with a mirror

Please come back and tell us if you get it done.
I've been shaving mine for about a year and the spots are less bad now.

JaniceLongSchlong · 24/03/2025 10:55

Could you have it waxed or threaded to see whether that helps? Ask them to take before and after photo so you can see the difference.

Returning late but this is what I’m talking about- it’s sort of regular in the middle but then comes down really low at the sides, and even tied up with a headband I get all these horrible wispy bits

My sister has this problem and she went to a local salon and had a free consultation for possible lasering but they said they would be reluctant to proceed. I think she was told that the hair on the nape of her neck wasn’t the same as hair in other places that is traditionally lasered, that it would require multiple treatments and they couldn’t guarantee success at the end.

Edited to say they also seemed reluctant to mess around with her natural hairline.

Those are tendrils and perfectly normal,I honestly think it would look very odd removed.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 26/03/2025 03:13

Could you go for a consultation to a laser place and see what they say?

Hemlocked · 26/03/2025 05:23

Yeah I think fine to shave and then laser it at home

PermanentTemporary · 26/03/2025 05:40

I see what you mean - I like it but I can see how it could bother you.

I've had a Phillips Lumea IPL for a lot of dark hair very successfully but not on that area (without it I need to shave my chin, cheeks and throat twice a day, my stomach, my toes etc etc). So I would get consultations for both laser and IPL.

TheOGCCL · 26/03/2025 07:38

I have this problem and it has affected what haircuts I have - my hairdresser sometimes shaves it but I hate the feeling of stubble at the back of my neck as it grows. I don’t think I’d go so far as to try and laser it and think it might be hard to get it right, you’d sort of want a hairdresser with a laser.

mrstrickland · 26/03/2025 08:22

I have this, I call it my neck fringe! I hate it too, its coarse hair and to me looks awful so I shave it pretty much every time I shower. Would also love to know if there are longer term options.

AngeloMysterioso · 26/03/2025 18:31

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! I really don’t want to shave it, because of the spots and also unless I do it really regularly it’ll just be stubbly and even more obvious when it grows back. I could try waxing I guess, it’s less upkeep and not permanent

The hair in your photo is normal, it's just very dark against pale skin. I'd suggest speaking to your hairdresser about bleaching it and having it coloured to blend into your hairline - like an ombre effect, darker at the roots nearest your hairline fading to fair down your neck

Litthefirealready · 26/03/2025 21:48

I went for a consultation about this very problem
today.
I actually am more concerned about my sideburns that wisp across my cheek and are hideous and if that goes well I will
continue treatment on my neck.
i detest the hair on my neck, no one else I know has this problem. I’m 48 and I do wish I had gone to see someone about it earlier in life.
The consultant did a patch test on me, it wasn’t painful and I’m excited about actually getting rid of it! Go and see someone and have a chat about it. The consultation was free.

Almostfourty · 26/03/2025 22:05

I have had laser on the back of my neck and on my sideburns, it used to look similar to yours. My sideburns have completely gone and now look normal, the back of my neck the hair is no longer frizzy and dark, it is fine and wispy and so much less noticeable. I have to go and have the back of my neck done every 3 months or so now after the initial 6 sessions a few years ago just to keep it at bay. I think this is because hair on the head is different to body hair but not sure. I will say though, I’ve had my bikini line, underarms, lower face and jawline done and the back of my neck is the most painful area to have done! But worth it completely. I’d say go for it . Make sure it is medical grade lasers though not IPL as they work differently.
