I'm keen to "do my colours" - how do I go about it?

loveyouradvice · 22/03/2025 01:30

Yes, I know some colours that really work on me - using colour me beautiful book years ago and just getting to know myself

BUT I'd love to have it done professionally and find out more....

What have you done?

How was it?

What do you recommend?

And, yes, roughly what did it cost?

Emily from style me happy

I wasn’t drawn to the colours I was given and felt a bit flat about it but then when I wear them they light me up and I feel brilliant, it saved me so much money buying clothes that I like the colour of but made me feel meh wearing them.

ItssssAMeMariooo92 · 22/03/2025 01:44

Style me happy without a shadow of a doubt. Join the FB group and get a feel for yourself. The ladies in it are amazing and Emily interacts with everyone in the group

I recommend House of Colour. It's not cheap but was two to three hours one to one session with colour swatches placed around my shoulders and compared by the trained consultant. She was lovely and friendly and yet professional. Before the swatches were placed we talked about what I was hoping for and how the process worked etc.

Then we talked make up and I was shown make up shades that would suit me. I tried a red that I was amazed how it suited me so well; sort of a revelation. And some shades I wouldn't have thought of.

The colours definitely are my best colours and makes putting outfits together and buying clothes, make up and accessories really easy.

I did for my birthday and it was just a bit of luxury having someone paying you close attention 😃

I think it's all bollocks and pseudoscience. Someone's opinion masquerading as fact.

tobee · 22/03/2025 02:00

To add they give you a booklet with your rated colours; which ones suit you more than others of your "season". And a swatch booklet of the colours which you ban take shopping with to match colours.

Have you tried it?

Have you tried it?

No, because I don't want someone else's opinion on what colours suit me or don't suit me, and I never want to feel restricted in what I might choose to wear, because I'm "cool autumn" or whatever and therefore couldn't possibly wear a fantastic purple jumper I've just found. There are only a couple of colours I don't tend to wear which are orange or lime green. They look better on a citrus fruit.

tobee · 22/03/2025 02:25

Well that's fine of course, no one would make you do it. And you don't have to stick to their suggestions. It's not some kind of cult or scam imo.

If you know what colours you like all well and good, you've probably got a natural flare for it. And a more confident person than I. I was close to knowing what colours suited me but it's encouraged me to be a bit less "safe" . For eg I thought I was likely a winter but a dark one but the colours I matched with are stronger and suit me better. But I do wear the odd bit of clothing that aren't quite my colours. The op asked that's all.

C'mon it's not like they tell you not to wear a particular colour. They just tell you which colours suit your skin tins, eyes, hair colour. And what colours may wash you out for example. No need to take offence to it. It's very helpful to some.

ADHDHDHDHD · 22/03/2025 03:40

Tbh they don’t tell you which colours suit you better it’s glaringly obvious! Colour one oh I look a bit shit. Colour 2 oh how come I instantly look nicer. It’s fascinating!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 22/03/2025 05:22

House of Colour is a reputable company.

nwilson12 · 22/03/2025 05:38

Definitely Emily at style me happy and the Facebook group is great with loads of help. You can get your body shape done too which helps find the best clothes for you. I'm a cool summer and it highlighted colours I'd never thought about before but now love. Yes I avoided some before the analysis but it's really helped open up options. It's also reasonably priced

prettyneededchill · 22/03/2025 05:44

House of Colour is brilliant. You can go on their website and search by your area for a consultant. Try to find a consultant who has been doing it for a while, at least pre-Covid.

I had mine done around 8 years ago and it was one of the best things I’ve done. I went on to also do their style sessions and had some help with wardrobe organisation and shopping.

I had it done in a group session. It looks like it’s somewhere in the region of £200-250 now for a 5 hour session.

Futureisborn · 22/03/2025 07:02

Another one for style me happy and Emily. The Facebook group is fantastic.

Ignore the miser above. Christ, I never understand why these people comment in the first place.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 22/03/2025 07:09

Having done Style me Happy and an in person one - I’d say pay a bit more and have an in person session. I got a lot out of it and feel much more confident in what I’m wearing.

loveyouradvice · 22/03/2025 11:08

I;m loving these responses - thank you! Feeling quite excited about it

Another vote for Emily@ Style Me Happy, I am a warm autumn pear ( I sound delicious don't I ?)😄

One colour I would have never ever worn was mustard, I found a Zara sweatshirt in this colour in our local charity shop so I thought I would give it a go.
Every time I wear it, I get compliments on how much the colour suits me. Every. Single. Time.

Penguinsmum · 22/03/2025 11:40

Emily at style me happy best £40 I've spent in a long time

Candleabra · 22/03/2025 11:45

House of Colour was excellent. I did the group session and it really helps to see the difference between the “right” and “wrong “ colours on other people. Sometimes it’s hard to see it immediately on yourself.

SadSandwich · 22/03/2025 11:47

Anyone done the online £40 version

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 22/03/2025 12:24

I self analysed myself several years ago via Pretty Your World and I came out as a soft summer, and although I think I look better in the colours for cool summer (there are cross overs), I found it really useful as all my clothes complement each other now and I do save money not buying myself things in colours that look awful against my face just because they are popular colours that season. I’ve just had a Quick Look on that website and it doesn’t look as though they do the same in-depth online quiz any more.

jellyfishperiwinkle · 22/03/2025 01:59

I think it's all bollocks and pseudoscience. Someone's opinion masquerading as fact.

What a weird opinion. Some people suit some colours more than others because people have different skin tones and hair and eye colours, that's just a fact. My mum looks like death in anything light grey but looks amazing in raspberry pink. I look ill in mustard but great in muted pinks. It's colour theory, not pseudoscience.

I haven't had a colour analysis but if I did, they would never ban me from wearing mustard. They would just point out that I look better in muted pink, and they would be right.
