What will help burning/stinging if rosacea?

I've developed rosacea out of the blue - am 50s and menopausal and have very sensitive skin so not a surprise perhaps.

I'm also already under care of a dermatologist and on immunosuppressants for severe eczema and have an appt in few weeks so will ask for her advice, but in meantime does anyone have any recs for something that might help with the burning/stinging sensation?

As I already have skin issues I'm very careful about the skin products I use (retinols, perfumes, using water on my skin etc are a no) , always wear full.spectrum suncream etc.

It's so depressing 😔

All my skin products are fragrance free etc and designed for sensitive skin as I have eczema (and have a consultant dermatologist for that).

Currently trying not to cry. Sending sympathy to all the fellow sufferers.

Azelaic acid does amazing things for the redness from my rosacea. You can by serums with it in. It tingles when you put it on and I can still only really manage it once a day or it irritates my skin. Soolantra deals with the spots.

Struggling here too. Tried so many things. Everything burns. I'm on lymecycline and skin looks fabulous. But the random burning and fact that I can't find a cleanser or moisturiser that doesn't burn is destroying me. I have post menopausal rosacea, allergies (which rule out many products such as almost all of aveeno, avene and cicaplast balm etc) and eczema. The emollients from Dr make my skin feel just as bad. Used to be on finacea and loved it until the burning started. Soolantra burns too. Unfortunately my eyelids are the worst affected and the eye doctors don't have a clue. Any skincare suggestions very welcome

I have no idea if it will work for you @WonderingWandabut the only thing my skin could tolerate was the Laneige water bank intense ( dark blue not light blue version). It helped hugely by getting proper hydration into my skin and not irritating it. It’s now my only moisturiser (though I switch to the light blue pot which is lighter for a couple of months in the summer). Have a look at the ingredients and see if it has anything that might cause an issue first obviously. Hope you find some relief.

Thank you! I've struggled with this rosacea for 10 years now. Can't seem to find specific triggers. It's random. That's the hard thing to cope with. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it 🙏.

Ihad the rosacea mostly under control until last year when my go to moisturiser and face wash changed formulation. The burning started then. And now my skin tolerates nothing. Last night I used la Roche Posay Toleriane dermocleanser (jury's still out on this one) and cerave moisturiser (which I'm mostly ok with ). I'm in agony this morning

Try taking antihistamine to see if it'll calm down. Stop using SPF for the moment in case that's a trigger, it is for me. Use nothing but Vaseline until it's calmed down. If it doesn't calm down see the GP.

Personally I'd avoid LRP, makes my skin sting despite it being for sensitive skin.

IPL (intense pulsed light)!

Soolantra did nothing for me, but I noticed huge difference after even the first IPL treatment.

LoveScotland · 30/08/2025 10:31

I think I agree re La Roche Posay. Maybe it's the culprit just now. Thanks 🙏

LoveScotland · 30/08/2025 10:33

Did ipl help with the stinging? I only have a few broken veins. Thanks

BlackSwan · 30/08/2025 11:20

It helped with sensitivity, redness and the little pustules I was getting. They just all went away. I have it about 3 times a year now. Just keeps it at bay.

LoveScotland · 30/08/2025 12:27

I think I'll look into IPL. What kind of place do you go to to get it? Thanks

BlackSwan · 30/08/2025 14:41

I go to a medispa - but one with lasers. Call around and ask them if they do IPL for rosacea. There's IPL for hair removal also but that's different.
