Best foundation/cover up for mid 40’s skin?

Looking for recommendations as above please. My make up just looks shit now. I have the same make up routine as I’ve always had, though I don’t cake it on like I used to when I was younger.

If feels very 2 dimensional and orangey, like back in the day. I keep advertisements of solid foundation that look like eye shadow but apparently are great for aging skin. You put it on with a brush.

There are so many different beauty brands, techniques and promises that it’s hard to know what are genuine.

Any tips please ladies?

I used to only wear lancome foundation but the last year I have moved to boots restore and renew foundation which I love. Defo worth a visit to the counter. I went in the week and they gave me a 10 pound off a 20 pound spend on NO 7 offer runs until 30/03

As I've got older I find the less is more approach works best. I tend to use tinted moisturizer or buildable foundation (only building in places I really need). Block/powder type foundations I find emphasize fine lines more and look more aging.
Brands I really like are NARS, Bobbi brown and glossier. All have great buildable foundations. Tinted moisturizers I like are NARS and bare minerals complexion rescue. I have dry skin.
If you’ve got a boots/JL near you I would get some samples are see what works best for you.

Do you have instagram? Erica Taylor is fantastic for this as she's mid 40s herself and does short videos showing the difference between what you'll have always done and what you should do now with your makeup. Key things seem to be the placement of blusher/ bronzer (higher up) and using eye shadow to lift your eyes. It's basically all lift. She's great.

Erborian CC cream is fab as a light coverage which just blurs all the flaws in your skin. Sometimes I mix a bit of their BB cream in with it if I want some more coverage. Mid 40s here and it’s a game changer

I also like Erborian CC cream and the BB cream when I want a bit more coverage. I don’t think I’ll buy another foundation again – it looks good in photos, but rarely in real life, especially on older skin.

Agree, the Erborian CC cream is fantastic for light coverage. I use the one that covers redness for day to day use.

For a slightly heavier skin tint I really like the new Milk Makeup Skin Tint.

For foundation I like Hourglass Illusion Luminous Glow and Dior Forever Skin Glow.

Also consider using a primer underneath foundation. Elf Poreless Putty Primer is great and inexpensive. I also like YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer.

Products like Elf Halo Glow and Dior Forever Glow Star Filter are good for adding a bit of extra glow/dewiness where you need it.

I'm late 40s with dry skin and rosacea.

I’d agree with a Pp less is more. Tinted moisturiser, cream blush, a little bit of concealer. Mascara is my look now am 45. It’s much more flattering than thicker makeup. I find the brush powder stuff doesn’t work for me. I don’t think it needs to be expensive. I buy concealer from Aldi in the gold tube ( dupe for touch eclat sp?) tinted moisturiser from boots no 7. I get a beauty box which keeps me in cream blush and mascaras.

Eborium or the Dior stick.

ElbowsUpRising · 21/03/2025 09:26

I really rate the Boots No 7 Hydraluminous foundation. Medium coverage and a bit glowy. Without being shiny.

Sunat45degrees · 21/03/2025 09:30

Yup, those ones you see where they paint it on.... yeah, I don't think it looks like that in real life. Less is definitely more.

I like Trinny BFF foundation. It's medium coverage but very buildable. I do the smoosh it into a brush then apply thing and it works really well.

Dragonfly97 · 21/03/2025 09:46

I have rosacea so I need something with a bit of coverage; I've used Estee Lauder Double Wear for years as it's got good staying power. I need something a bit more moisturising as I've got older, I like Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue foundation, especially in winter when my skin is drier. I second Erborium primer, I also like Dr Jart CicaRescue primer for redness.

Titsywoo · 21/03/2025 09:52

I'm 46 and I have found for foundation the ELF Halo Glow Liquid filter is the only one that doesn't go horribly cakey on my skin. I also have rosacea and use Erborian CC Redness Corrector which is quite expensive but very effective.
