Lip Flip - Any first hand experience?

MirandaMarmoset · 17/03/2025 21:01

I recently had a consultation with a view to getting some botox, and the practitioner mentioned that a 'lip flip' would enhance the look of my thinnish top lip.

I'd never heard of it before. They said I could decide on the day of my treatment if I want it included.

Has anyone had this done? I'm interested in hearing both positive and negative experiences please.

Lip fillers bloody painful!!! Even with numbing That's all I know

Had a lip flip, could not see a difference. I work in a school and couldn’t blow the whistle for a couple of weeks

This isn't lip filler. I understand that botox is injected above your top lip, which relaxes it and gives it a slightly fuller look.

I'm interested and following, as I've yet to see a single person, ever, who has filled their lips and not ended up with their lips covering their teeth on either side at the top. Why fill lips when it hides your actual teeth? Surely this can be sorted out by now with modern techniques?

Thank you, that's interesting that you couldn't see a difference.

Yes I've never fancied lip filler. My top lip does look thin and almost disappears when I smile but it's not a big concern. But, the idea of the lip flip interests me as it doesn't seem too invasive. I don't know anyone who has had it done though.

Lip flips are pretty effective on thinner lips but it doesn't last very long, unlike lip fillers.

Epps · 17/03/2025 21:18

I really didn’t like it. I couldn’t even drink properly for about 3-4 weeks & I felt like I was talking with a lisp. I have the tiniest amount of filler in my lips so it’s very subtle.

Lollypop701 · 17/03/2025 21:24

it freezes you lips,,, can’t purse them l.

which doesn’t sound a lot but makes eating slightly more difficult and forget straws. Did it once and never again

Do lip flips help with fine lines around the top lip?

Lavenderandbrown · 17/03/2025 22:31

I had a lip flip 4 additional units of Botox to help with fine lip lines. They did soften but overall I didn’t think it made enough of an improvement to say …wow I want to do that again. I had 47 units including the 4 in my lip in april 2023 and I just had 30 units in early march 2025 and honestly the 30 look better. Just enough to smooth my forehead and between my eyes which are not really “11” or “1” but more horizontal and slight. I can’t seem to find a solution for lips I like. I had filler in late 2019 and didn’t repeat that either. I tend to purse my lips when concentrating. And I also believe wearing a mask all day/ every work day until May of 2023 aged around my mouth disproportionately. Heavy duty mask sucking all the moisture out. If you can limit the Botox to 4 or 5 units so not overly expensive it may be worth trying to see
how your lips/ mouth respond.

I’m having this done at my next appointment for lip lines, my Dr wants to also do the downturned lines at the corner of my mouth but I’m worried it will go wrong and look like have had a stroke, not sure if I’m brave enough to try it.

NewJobNewMeNewLife · 17/03/2025 23:00

Have mine done with 3 monthly Botox and love it. Very subtle, at rest I don’t look any different but when I smile it stops my top lip disappearing, which also makes my lip stick last better as it’s not rubbing offf as my lip turns inwards.
lips are no fuller though, you’d need fillers for that.

Chromaover · 17/03/2025 23:18

I had it done and it made no difference to my appearance when my face was at rest. Maybe a tiny marginal difference when I smiled but only I could see it. It did however feel really weird. I couldn't properly close my mouth and I dribbled when I drank from a cup. Lisped. Numb. Thankfully this didn't last long so it was mainly just a huge waste of money - I kept trying to close my lips and kind of 'work' the muscle to get it to wear off faster.

Someone explained it to me like your mouth being similar to your arse hole in that it's a muscle you NEED to be able to close properly. If you put Botox in either it's flapping about and not able to do its job. Sadly they only said this after I did it.

Wouldn't do it again

MirandaMarmoset · 18/03/2025 06:14

Thanks for the responses. The stories about numbness etc are putting me off. I wouldn't want to be dribbling while sipping a drink at work, or struggling to speak properly.
