Overpronation: Fitflop Lulu or Skechers Arch Support Sandals?

Hi all,

I've recently had a lot of pain in my left foot- ankle pain and the tops of my foot have felt very sore.

I went to see a podiatrist who advised me that I overpronate when walking and that my left leg is 9mm longer than my right, which could be causing the pain.

She advised me to get structured shoes with arch support and gave me a heel lift to put in my right shoe for the leg length discrepancy.

I am going on holiday in 2 weeks and need some supportive sandals. It's a beach holiday and there will be a lot of walking involved. I've seen the Lulu fitflops which have a lot of good reviews, but I have also seen Skechers arch support sandals and I'm not sure which to go for- does anyone have experience of any of these?

Also does anyone know where I can buy more heel lifts to place in whichever sandals I buy?

I realise I'm going to have to get rid of all my current shoes but my current priority is buying comfortable footwear for my holiday.

Thanks.

I'm an overpronator. I like FitFlop trainers and find them supportive. I looked at the Lulu sandals and they don't look like they have much arch support.
Have you tried Birkenstocks?

Asvan · 16/03/2025 23:07

Thanks for the reply. I did consider Birkenstocks but couldn't find any with arch support?

Fitflop trainers are really comfortable with plenty of support. I’ve got 2 pairs of F Mode ones.

I have Fitflop Lulu and can walk for miles in them.
I don't have much faith in sketchers as I have read that they can cause foot problems.

All Birkenstocks have arch support. Have you ever tried any?

No, never tried Birkenstocks.

Will you be able to use heel lifts in sandals? I use insoles in my boots but never been able to in sandals sadly. Anyway, I have always found fit flops better for my sad feet than Skechers.

No, never tried Birkenstocks.

See if you can get to a shop to try them out. I overpronate and find them really comfortable. They come up.quite large so you may have to size down.

I swear by vionics shoes. They totally cured my foot pain and I am gradually switching all my shoes to vionics. Have stiff supportive insoles in the couple of surviving non-vionic shoes.

They are pricey but often available on sale.

If you're still sore, I'd suggest skipping sandals and using shoes or trainers for walking (apart from actually on the beach or in the pool). The inserts are unlikely to stay in sandals. They're often plastic so are sweaty and likely to give you blisters without socks. Plus full shoes give your whole foot support to stay straight. Birkenstoks don't have heel bands so are not good for more than a few hundred metres walking and will keep your feet sore, even if they're sold as orthopedics. They're great as slippers though.

Oofos do supremely comfy shoes/ sandals with arch support. But the soles are soft & squishy to help sore feet, so may not be suitable for you.
I have the clogs, slides & flip flops & love them.
They were recommended by my podiatrist along with some other brands such as Hoka - Clifton's particularly & Joya/Finn Comfort.

I’d love a pair of Vionics but how is the sizing? Any advice?
I’m a UK 5.5, regular / slim width.

StretfordEnd · 18/03/2025 20:06

Fine, true to size I would say. I am a 5 and buy a 5. I had one pair of ankle boots that were rather tight width wise otherwise all been great.
