Help me plan my shopping trip!

I have been dieting and have managed to lose just over 3 stone and drop at least two clothing sizes. So far I’ve been making do with the clothes I’ve got although I have bought a couple of pairs of jeans to tide me over.
Next weekend my sister (hi - if you’re reading this!) and I are going to the big city (UK but not London) for a shopping weekend and I’ll basically be starting my wardrobe from scratch. I’m starting with a bra fitting and then everything outwards from there.
I want to buy fewer better quality items and also want to make sure that I don’t come home with loads of random items that don’t actually make up any outfits.
So what should I be looking at to build a new wardrobe? I’m mid-50s, size 16 (possibly generous 14) and work from home so don’t really need office wear as such.
I feel like I need some kind of plan so I don’t feel totally overwhelmed!

Congratulations on the weight loss! If you’ll be shopping in a city it’s fairly guaranteed that all the shops you visit will have comprehensive websites. So do all your scouting and investigating online first.

Look up all the shops you’re planning to visit.

Inspect all their stock. Work out what you’d like to try on.

Think about 24 hours of your life and what you need hour by hour. Don’t be distracted by things you’ll never wear. (Unless you can find opportunities to wear them.)

Check that those items will be in stock in store.

Enjoy a purposeful day!

Oh! We don’t know what better quality means for you. If you give a budget for your shopping trip people will be able to make more helpful suggestions of specific places to look.

@BetsyRegards - good point! I’m looking at Hush, Whistles, Cos sort of prices. Could possibly stretch to Me+Em for something amazing.

What about having a personal styling appointment at John Lewis and going from there.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 13/03/2025 18:49

@Britpopbaby - I had thought of that but unfortunately there aren’t any appointments available when we’re going to be there

Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh has a personal shopping service.

I have recently lost three stone and am rebuilding my wardrobe.

what has worked for me is following a lot of the capsule wardrobe influencers on tik tok. I found a style I liked and that worked for me then copied the style.

I have focused on a work wardrobe - so quite different style to you - but whistles, hobbs, Boden, M&S have been in my list to buy good quality plain basics that will hopefully last a good few years.

I found https://www.instagram.com/s.buckinghamxx/ Worked for my style. Lots of ideas in a similar colour palette so could mix and match and quickly build a wardrobe.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 14/03/2025 18:18

Thanks @Britpopbaby - I’ll have a look at their service

@Bellyblueboy - I do like her style but her workwear is definitely more formal than I need. I’ll try to find similar accounts with a more casual feel.

I also follow

Not 100% my style - more casual than I usually go for but she dresses well and I have got a few ideas. She is also too tall for me😂
