Some people have too much time on their hands.

Some people have too much time on their hands.

Both women are journalists so presumably being paid for their time.

The younger one definitely doesn't look right in the wrong jeans!

MorrisZapp · 13/03/2025 08:40

Of course age is relevant. I'm still clinging on to skinnies and boyfriends, can't see me ever going back to a low waist bootcut.

At 53, I don't have the kind of belly I'd like to show off any more. I've lived through every jeans trend twice, I know what works for me.

minipie · 13/03/2025 08:43

I wear whatever jeans look ok on my short legs and massive thighs. Twas ever thus even as a teenager.

I’m just grateful that these days there are lots of styles available all the time, not just the current favoured style (the skinnies era was a real low point for me).

Mushmemellow · 13/03/2025 08:47

I’m in my 50’s and love a low waist and long and that’s because it suits my shape.

Gundogday · 13/03/2025 08:47

I wear jeans that suit my body shape, ie, bootcut, and darker shades as that’s what suits me. Wearing paler jeans doesn’t work, and I’ve never worn the ‘mom’ Jean style. I did get some to try on but they just looked wrong. Oh, I also wear high waisted jeans because I have a high waist, not because fashion dictates. .

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2025 08:50

Been there, done that with mud-trailing flares.
I wouldn’t wear either of those styles and neither would my DD.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 13/03/2025 09:09

I'm so confused by this article! I reluctantly accepted ankle flapping jeans a few years ago and I hate them even though they're the only jeans I own now.

But I really am not ready to go back to the flares and bootcuts of my youth.

What jeans do I go for as a tall 40s something person with a big bum!?

ElbowsUpRising · 13/03/2025 09:13

I'm late 40s and own both those style of jeans and happily wear either.

Floisme · 13/03/2025 09:20

I will never understand this idea that you must declare loyalty to one style of jeans and never wear any other. I really enjoy the choice that's on offer at the moment. I may even wander back to skinnies at some point (although not just yet).

TheOGCCL · 13/03/2025 09:20

I do see what the younger one means, she looks much better in her own jeans! But the older one, whilst she is carrying it off as she is slim and interesting, not so much. Does the older one look too try too hard, what is it that makes age affects how jeans look?

I’ve always hated high rise, as they make me feel trussed up and like I can’t sit down comfortably so one thing I’m glad about is the return of lower rises (not Britney low but at least an inch under my belly button).

Lentilweaver · 13/03/2025 09:22

I am 53 and wear high waisted wide leg. Quite similar to what DD is wearing. I have longish legs.
Dont like carrot.

When she walks along a wet pavement and has to spend the rest of her day with heavy, flapping, soaking wet bottoms of jeans she will find out why we moved away from flares.

MissyB1 · 13/03/2025 09:30

God who could cope with huge flappy lengths of material trailing on the floor and trying to trip you up?! I've got a dog for that 😂

I'm 5ft 3 and getting jeans that are comfortable, the right length, and don't make me look even shorter is very difficult! Last week I finally managed to buy a a pair of mid rise, straight leg, from white stuff, after trying on countless pairs in about 6 shops!

Or wore our flares with a big platform - the pattens of the 70sGrin

Floisme · 13/03/2025 09:34

I adore platforms. I can't walk in them any more but they're the only non flats that I like - they're both very silly and hugely practical at the same time.

We were sating this 3 years ago but they've not stopped!

Mulledjuice · 13/03/2025 09:39

Is a damp course for jeans a thing? Can we make it so?

Wet hems i don't mind so much as wet shins and calves

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 13/03/2025 09:40

I’m in my late 40s with a short body and long legs. I hate high waisted jeans as it feels like they come up to just below my boobs. Low waisted suit my body shape so much better. I bought some low waisted baggy jeans and love them and I’m so happy they are much easier to find now

Fliperty · 13/03/2025 09:44

Fortunately being gen x no one notices what jeans I wear. What ages me 10 years is usually my face. That’s what you can look forward to gen z 😂

Lentilweaver · 13/03/2025 09:49

I walk along wet pavements daily with wide flappy jeans; no issues. Mom jeans feel very uncomfortable somehow. Legs need to breathe. Especially on the Tube.

turkeyboots · 13/03/2025 09:57

I don't see the teens round here in jeans at all. Any jeans are aging according my 17 yo Gen Z er!

Sainsburys is the best place for jeans (as a fellow shortie)
