Calling all self-tanners, how do you avoid the problem of white hands please?

How do you avoid this? I look very odd: David Dickinson arms, anaemic hands = not a very good look.

After you've applied the tan stuff and washed your hands, just wipe the backs of your hands on your legs or wherever you've fake-tanned and there you go - normal looking hands!

any other top tips? I used the Dove tan/moisturiser stuff the other day and managed to have some streaks and darker knees - I thought it was not meant to do that?

bluebell1 · 12/05/2008 19:25

I do my arms last throughly wash hands if havent used gloves then wet a flannel/sponge.I then apply a small amount of tan to hands(as can tend to stick to hands)then once finshed i wipe my palms over flannel and pat dry.xxx

chonky · 12/05/2008 19:26

Yep - forgot to say that I also have tango palms to boot .

Maybe gloves the answer?

Forkhandles if you have darker knees its because they are dry and the tan has stuck.Always exfoliate before a tan and put moisturiser over any dry areas before you start.I love the dove tan though st tropez everyday is also good.

chonky · 12/05/2008 19:29

Another tip is to exfoliate with a good body brush. The Body Shop's are the best I've found - try their cactus brush. VG.

Get the tight gloves like the st tropez ones they sell.Im a beauty therapist and when i first learnt tanning i got addicted so have tried all the tricks for orange palms.Lemon juice works well mixed with a bit of sugar to exfoliate.

Cappuccino · 12/05/2008 19:31

I never do my arms

they just get tanned all on their own

CountessDracula · 12/05/2008 19:42

No i don't tend to do arms. They get out enough to get brown all on their own. Ditto hands so don't have that prob.

I exfoliate legs, then moisturise

I put the fake tan on (clarins) and avoid knees and those annoying bits on the front of your ankle that go orange. Then I mix a little fake tan with moisturiser and put that on these which seems to work fine

I only do a little as I am not fond of looking tangoed

I fear I look tangoed at the moment. Have just questioned dh to death (in style of 'does my bum look big in this?') with 'do I look tangoed?'. Poor chap.

Right, will exfoliate, moisturise and then slap on the Clarins (vowing never to be tempted by another brand ever again).
