Smart dinner date outfit

DH and I are about to go away for our anniversary. We’ve booked a table at a Michelin star restaurant that only does tasting menus.

I’m really stuck for what to wear. We used to go out all the time pre kids but I just live in comfy clothing these days.

I’m 35, size 14, 5’4”. Blonde balayage, pale (although I might fake tan), blue eyes. Large thighs and a bit of a mum tum and short legs.

I don’t suit orange, yellow or purple. Most of my wardrobe is black, blue or white.

As it’s a tasting menu I don’t want anything too tight and want to make a bit of an effort. However, it’s not in a major city or anything so nothing too OTT.

please can someone suggest some styles. I’m feeling so totally lost having not been out in so long!

If it were me I’d welcome the opportunity to buy a luxurious silk co-ord set of button down top and trousers. The fabric makes it luxurious but the structures are relaxed and unfussy.

Obviously that might not do for anyone planning a ‘sexy date night’ outfit - but they’re perfect for times when one doesn’t want to look gauche and overdressed.

As it's not in a city oddly people are likely to dress up more!

Personally I'd opt for a dress so no waist band issues Grin. My go to is a dark thick jersey dress because you can dress it up or down depending on occasion and wont look too try hard either. My experience is that people in the U.K. do not dress for dinner at that price point anymore though most of my experience is in the southern half of the country, I did note when we ate out in a much cheaper restaurant in Scotland (set 3 course dinner in a golf club) every man but dp was in proper trousers and polishable shoes which doesn't even happen at weddings here! Some will be in trainers Grin

@BlossomBlossomBlossom

Not sure it was you but someone poster a silk co ord set the other day and it simply looks like pyjamas, definitely not a good look for dinner! You might know it wasn't intended to sleep in but to everyone else matching button up top aka shirt and loose silk trousers are sleepwear.

Perhaps I have more faith than you in other people’s eyes!

It's just nonsense- of course people can tell the difference between pyjamas and say Serena Bute co-ords.

It's a stock MN cliché along with "looks like Amish/ looks like my granny's nightdress/ curtains"

I'd go with something like

https://www.nobodyschild.com/products/red-long-sleeve-a-line-penni-midi-dress-d251972red?queryID=72c5dc22219b0628e10526b1e9ab3eb6

Or this:

dressed up with some nice jewellery etc and small heels like these:

(I saw someone wearing I think these exact shoes in London yesterday with jeans and they looked amazing)

Apologies for the long links! I can work out how to do links on the app.
