How to wash cashmere

I bought a Uniqlo cashmere jumper and put it on hand-wash in my machine with delicate liquid for wools.

When it finished it was absolutely soaking. I put it on a spin and I think it's shrunk. I've laid it flat and pulled it out - not sure how it will dry. I bought a slightly bigger size anyway so should be okay but just wondering what does everyone else do? Detailed instructions for idiots please as everyone has a different washing machine/process.

Thanks!

As a general rule don't wash cashmere until you absolutely have to and it never goes near a washing machine.

Cashmere is very very warm, no wonder you are sweating if you are wearing it in October and are walking vigorously.

I reserve 100% cashmere clothes for the coldest days of winter and aways wear them over something - generally long sleeved thermal tops or a long sleeved blouse.

I dropped a big blob of yogurt on my cashmere v neck cardigan 😞

Plus do those bobble shavers not risk the item going a bit bald?

I have an embarrassingly large collection of Uniqlo cashmere, because I buy one or 2 each year in the end of season sales and have been doing so for years. So it does last.

It gets washed once at the end of winter before being put away (except my two cardis which live in the wardrobe - hanging up even! - year round).

My machine's wool wash cycle with wool detergent, hung over and airer to dry. I've never needed to lie them flat to dry and the shape is fine.

Throughout winter I wear them only with a thick layer underneath, and will hang inside out to air after each wear, maybe with a spritz of deodoriser if needed.

Never spin cashmere. It's also not massively difficult to look after cashmere either. Either hand wash in a wool/cashmere wash or else use machine but do not spin. Remove when wet. Press out as much water as possible without squeezing, then place item on a towel, placing another towel on top. Then roll up, and repeat until as much water as possible has gone. Reshape, then dry flat on top of an airer.

This works well for other wools too.
