Is this trench worth it?

I’ve been looking at this trench for a few weeks vs ones on Vinted.

it’s petite- looks very smart and lovely. I’m 5ft2. Will it literally last me forever and make me look very smart and cool?! 😂

Thoughts please?

m and s have similar but the petite is sold out and the shape didn’t look so big boob friendly.

I bought a very similar one from Hobbs a few years ago in navy. I wore it to work every day in spring and then again in Autumn. Great quality.

I have lost three stone and it is now way too big, otherwise I would be taking it out about now for this spring

AlwaysThereBear · 09/03/2025 19:56

I have the navy blue one and love it.

AlwaysThereBear · 09/03/2025 19:59

The regular size

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 09/03/2025 20:00

I have this & I love it!

I had a trench from m&s that I loved and wore for about 10 years but it was a bit wrecked; I planned to replace but all the M&s ones (and nearly every other one I tried) was really oversized and I prefer a more fitted look (whether or not it’s in fashion). This was the most classic one I could find and I did tonnes of trying!

i expect I’ll get another ten years out of it.

enjoy if you get it! X

CinnamonJellyBeans · 09/03/2025 20:17

That's a beautiful coat and you should buy it.

HeyItsPickleRick · 09/03/2025 21:49

It’s lovely but the Hobbs coat I bought last year (and one of about 7 coats I have so not worn every day) is already so worn. I’m so disappointed in the quality!

I bought a Ted Baker trench which lasted me 7 years or so, clothes these days seem so hit or miss!

Tiddlywinkly · 09/03/2025 22:37

I think the length might be a bit short. How about this one? https://www.sezane.com/en/product/scott-trench-coat/camel#size-4

Similar cost. I have it in navy and have received many compliments. Lovely details and great quality.

Gingertam · 09/03/2025 23:18

It's lovely. I've got a Hobbs trench which is a few years old and still looks good. I'm very much "price per wear" so would always spend a bit more for quality as I literally wear my coats for years. Hobbs often 15%,20% off.

NewMarmiteJar · 09/03/2025 23:53

I really like it but trenches don't suit me. I look a little Inspector Gadget.

TerrorAustralis · 10/03/2025 05:37

If you have big boobs, the flap things over the shoulder (not sure what the proper name for that bit is) don’t sit right.

MaggieBsBoat · 10/03/2025 05:40

I have this one and it’s great! Well worth it.

abracadabra1980 · 10/03/2025 06:31

Agree. Inspector Gadget made me laugh! May be an unpopular opinion but I hate them-the big flappy collars and belts are just too fussy for me, also unless you're over around 5'8 and skinny I don't think they flatter anyone.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 10/03/2025 06:33

I have had 2 of these and was actually looking on vinted and considering buying a 3rd. It’s a good coat

i normally give inspector gadget vibes but look normal in this. I’m short…5”3?

WineandCheeseYesPlease · 10/03/2025 07:30

I have this in purple, but the regular size. I wish I’d known they did a petite version as I’m 5’2 too and it’s too long for me really. I still love it though! I tried the tan one on too and thought it would go with everything, but it didn’t suit me as well as the purple one. It was a splurge for me but it’s good quality, very smart and I’m sure it will last me for years. Classic never goes out of style!

NewMarmiteJar · 10/03/2025 10:20

@abracadabra1980 exactly, it's one of those garments where our physiques dictate what looks good, a shortish busty apple shape like me gives a very different vibe in a trench to a willowy tall silhouette!

Newmeagain · 10/03/2025 10:24

I really like trench coats but I also think that one is too short.

TwinklyTornadoBear · 10/03/2025 13:25

I have the Saskia, which I think is possibly the same thing but with last season's name? (I'm playing spot the difference and struggling!)

If so, the front can be 'buttoned open' which makes it hang really beautifully.

I wear it constantly through Autumn and Spring - I find it sufficiently waterproof for commuting.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 10/03/2025 13:39

The length isn't one I would wear and not a classic trench length. Also, and like a PP has said, the fabric content/the fact it's only shower resistant makes it a fashion item.

Mostly though, as someone (once) busty, I just wouldn't wear a double-breasted coat with buttons that are on the chest.

Mirabai · 10/03/2025 21:16

I bought that Hobbs one new on eBay for £50 so I’d say no.

GalaxyWasOnOffer · 10/03/2025 21:29

Like @evilharpy I don't have this one but I have the Saskia in navy. It's very stylish and often draws compliments. I think someone mentioned the Jack Wills trench being half the price of the Hobbs one - I had the Jack Wills but the design always felt too clumsy, I sold it in the end. The Hobbs ones are far better cut.

To all those who are buying new clothes after hitting a target weight - many congratulations - enjoy looking and feeling fabulous 🙂

Bowies · 10/03/2025 23:20

I am a Hobbs trench coat owner and say it’s worth it if it suits your colouring, overall style and lifestyle and will wear it most days.

The cut is good and they last well. I’ve had mine a good few years and worn it a lot but I’ve always worn a trench coat.

It’s not good if you feel the cold as they aren’t very warm, or if you can’t carry easily carry an umbrella due to windy weather or dog on lead type thing. More of a city look, not suited to country or seaside type walks or dog walks.

Obviously it and you aren’t going to look like the photograph, even the model won’t look like that popping off to the shops in the morning. Like taking a hair cut photo to the hairdresser for inspiration.

If you aren’t sure Sainsbury Tu and Uniqlo are worth a look, have done very good versions in the past and would be cheaper.

Bowies · 10/03/2025 23:33

Sorry to add, agree with PP to go for one of the single breasted trench styles instead for your body shape

RobertaFirmino · 11/03/2025 00:22

I like the thought of a trench coat but in reality, they just flap about on me. If it suits you though, then it is definitely worth spending on. It will never look try-hard yet never dated. You'll be able to wear it until it wears out.

MagAmberson · 16/03/2025 08:04

I've just ordered the petite size, I'm 5 ft 2 and size 8/10. It's a lot of money for me and the most expensive item of clothing I've bought in years, but I'm hoping it will be an investment and it's it's not too small or tight across the chest. Fingers crossed🙂

MontysMum909 · 16/03/2025 08:16

I have this trench in petite as I’m 5’2 and, I’m not sure why, but it’s just never the coat I reach for out of the cupboard.
I think maybe

  1. weather is too cold
  2. weather is too warm
  3. it’s quite fitted so what’s underneath needs to be not too bulky
  4. it’s quite a stiff material - so isn’t a ‘comfy’ choice.

I really like it so it’s odd that I don’t choose it. If I bought again I would size up I think.
