Recommendations for scar creams after abdominal surgery?

Hello Everyone,

I recently had abdominal surgery which left me with an almost 4 inch scar at lower abdomen. The surgery was done few weeks ago.
Has anyone got recommendations for decent scar creams that actually work? Not fancying the idea of this red line being on display forever, and summer holidays aren't that far off!

Any brands you've had good results with for fading or reducing surgical scars?

Thanks in advance xx

Bio oil is most recommended. Once it's healed you can use medical silicone tape too, which seems to work very well for a lot of people. Massage is key to good healing too, it promotes blood flow.

The scar will continue to improve over the next year and the redness will fade even without these things.

I follow Hannah Johnson therapies on instagram for advice on reducing the appearance of c section scars, she has lots of tips and recommends different products often with discount codes. Naydaya scar saviour is often mentioned, much more expensive than bio oil though!

Two silicone creams I’ve used are kelocote and dermatrix, both worked very well. They’re not cheap, but worth it imo.

I have been under Max fax 10+ scars from cancer surgeries that have burst. They recommended silicone tape or kelocote and massage for many months longer than you would think, skin takes between 12-18 months for the collagen fibres to get into their final positions. Silicone (and Vaseline earlier on) stops them drying out and massage helps the collagen to lie ‘flatter’ and thus leave less of a mark.

Also no sun at all, the skin is so much more delicate and susceptible to damage and burning. There’s a kelocote with spf in which is expensive but well regarded

Try dermovate ointment for 2-3 months.

Science of Skin, solution for scars. I used this (as recommended by my surgeon) following breast reduction surgery and it was fantastic. Scars were very faint after just a few months.

Kelocote is really helping my scar. You do have to keep up using it though.

I think massage is most important. I have a scar on my face and was told to massage it with a bit of olive oli everyday. It was red and raised but very quickly faded and mostly blends in.
