Just for a one off special occasion!! its dds First Holy Communion next weekend and she has asked if i can make her hair curly to wear under her veil. It is waist length and thick!! Don't want to do ringlets overnight for her as they aren't conducive to a good nights sleep. Thanks for any help

how old is she? could you tong it as a one off?
otherwise use mousse and plait into 4-5 plaits when wet, dry with hairdryer or naturally, remove plaits voila

chewlips · 11/05/2008 18:02

Have you thought about ragging it - that will give you ringlets

chewlips · 11/05/2008 18:03

Whoops sorry just read about ringlet!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/05/2008 18:51

I could tong it - shes 8. Been a long time since I used tongs! She quite often has wavy hair from plaits so would like to do it a bit different.

Is it the case that I should be doing it on hair that hasn't been washed for a day or so? Also, is mousse the best thing for getting it to stay in?

I do love ringlets. did them once and it looked fab!

I love ringlets too!

What time is FHC next Sunday? Do you have time to rag it early in the morning?

Mine always used to go curly when I put a french plait in wet hair overnight.

bellavita · 11/05/2008 19:51

chewlips - I remember years ago when my mum used to put rags in my long hair. She used to do it damp the teatime before, then take it out the following morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/05/2008 20:48

tmmj what a lovely offer thank you I'm in the south though. I'm going to take my boots card tomorrow and see what I can find in town.

nickytwotimes - thank you! I hope it is too. Got family coming over so i'm really looking forward to it!

Gordonthegopher - we do that a lot with heras her hair gets tangled if I don't plait it at bedtime. I was after a bit of a different effect this time.

actually, after reading some reviews I might go with putting it in rags after all. Her hair is quite dry towards the ends and I'd hate to make that worse for the sake of one day.

a hairdresser would do it for you - might be easier?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/05/2008 20:56

hey - I used to have those bendy ones (in pink) when I was a teenager!! do you think they'll be comfy enough to sleep in?

thanks for looking up the links!!!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/05/2008 20:58

DarthVader, would def be easier if she didn't have to be there so early but you are a bit of a genius!! neighbour across road is a hairdresser and did mine for a wedding recently. Didn't occur to me to ask her to do dd!

I found these instructions on using bendy rollers.

Would be an awful lot easier!! and it is rather spectacular - blonde and thick and swishy. I could tell her it would go with the veil much better plus then I'll actually have time to make some food for the guests (sorry, we arent feeding you all today cos I was too busy dolling up my dd!)

Rag rolling is comfortable overnight, just don't tie them too tight. I did the sluglet's hair like that when she was 5 for her debut as a bridesmaid and she seemed completly unfazed by the whole thing. You can see the results on my profile page.
