Electrolysis for menopausal chin hairs?

Aparecium · 02/03/2025 09:13

Due to poor eyesight, I'm finding my chin hairs increasingly difficult to pluck - and they are increasingly increasing.

Will electrolysis stop them from growing back?

I have never had electrolysis.

Yes but it takes ages. Ive been going for a year ans still get the odd one. Big improvement though

JasmineTea11 · 02/03/2025 09:56

Yes it works, and it's not very expensive. Hurts a tiny bit - little prick each time!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 02/03/2025 10:02

I did this pre menopause. It took about 18 months but absolutely worth it.

It's now 10 years later and I am post menopause. I'm getting the odd one coming back now. I paid for 10 minutes of electrolysis a couple of months ago but the therapist couldn't find enough hairs to last 10 minutes

I had electrolysis for chin hairs for years and years, they never went. IPL zapped them and they never came back, I think I had 3 sessions.

It didn’t work for me, pre-menopause. I was going weekly for about a year and eventually gave up. Laser has been better.

Aparecium · 02/03/2025 12:45

I can't have IPL.

I have a beautician who does threading and comes to the house every few weeks. You could also use hair removal cream.

Yes, but only if you get a skilled electrologist (there are far too many unskilled electrologists operating).

A top drawer electrologist should be able to sort a small area like that permanently in a small number of sessions.

I bought an epilator. Stings like hell initially but that does subside and it doesn't really hurt much at all now.
Just couldn't afford weekly waxing and IPL wouldn't work on me, all the hairs are too pale.

I have PCOS, anecdotally, laser treatment won't work permanently as it's hormone driven and the hairs will return. So, way too expensive to have to do more than once.

Mine are mostly below the jawline, I use it once or twice a week and always have a pair of tweezers in my pocket and pluck the stray buggers out that spring up in between times. I never use a mirror, just feel for them and keep plucking until I get them.

I agree.
there are many who are useless.

Lurkingandlearning · 07/03/2025 16:51

What is IPL?

How do you find such a person?

I was told by my electrolysis technician not to pluck chin hairs because it stimulates growth.

Worked for me, OP. Way better than IPL did, although that worked on my legs.

The institute of electrolysis is some sort of benchmark.

Get yourself a 10x or stronger magnifying mirror … it’s scary what you can see in them… it will definitely show up your chin hairs for you to be able to pluck

Studyunder · 13/04/2026 23:32

I’ve spent a fortune getting waxed every 3 weeks for 10+ years. A couple of months ago I bought a Tweezerman facial hair remover on Amazon - it’s bloody brilliant. Best £20 I ever spent! Fortunately, it arrived on a day I’d had my face waxed so there weren’t too many to pluck initially (my beautician is lovely but always misses a few hairs). It hurts a little, then you get used to it. Total game changer and affordable ☺️
