Watched a podcast this am wihh th jameila and she told Paul how she wore a dress for 30 days and it really changed how she felt

so googled it and it seems it’s a thing

so wondering if any of you have done it/tried it?

But what's the point? If you have a massive wardrobe but just done use much of it for 30 days before going back to it you're not reducing your environmental footprint. And the linked to dress isn't very exciting

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 01/03/2025 23:09

I think it’s a great idea. If you want to you can use different cardigans, jumpers, jewellery, scarves, belts etc to make it look different, but there’s no need to even do that if you don’t want to. Lots of people just have a uniform and stick to it eg Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg etc, if it works for you then why not?

An Australian news reader wore the same suit for a year, presenting the breakfast show, and no one noticed.

it really changed how she felt
Hope she's feeling better now

JennyTals · 02/03/2025 01:56

Sorry guys been out tonight, no it’s not the same dress, well I don’t think that’s what she was personally talking about
Just that she wore only dresses for 30 days
so she must mean different ones

she was talking about how it helped her embrace for feminine side as she’s spent most of her life since 15
being quite masculine and being the bread winner etc and now’s she’s trying to release her softer side

@JennyTals Which podcast then? Only wearing dresses for a month doesn’t sound like much really, some women do that all the time.

JennyTals · 02/03/2025 07:29

Here the podcast is about her life, this was just a comment made during the discussion
interesting to hear all she’s been through and how well she’s done

I haven’t done a challenge but I’d got to a place where I was basically wearing denim shorts and a tshirt in summer, jeans, a tshirt, and cardigan in autumn and spring, and jeans, a long sleeved thermal, and a jumper in winter. If I put anything else on I felt a bit uncomfortable and like I was overdressed.
I started wearing dresses more in summer and then this winter I felt a bit frumpy in my jeans and jumpers (not helped by putting on a bit of tummy weight making things hang differently and waistbands dig in) so I started wearing more dresses and tights. I DO feel better for it, I look more put together and my tummy is less noticeable (also no waistbands digging in). I feel less frumpy and therefore more confident. Also tights are warmer than jeans, especially my primark velvet ones! I’ve haven’t gone the full winter in dresses but I have worn one most days.

No way I'd wear the same thing everyday, washing it over night etc.

Nope. I'd feel scuzzy as fuck

(That's not to say I only wear things once, I don't, I wear things a couple times and they live on the not dirty, not clean chair)

Edited

Same here! Anyway I don't wear wool. I would be embarrassed if people thought I wore the same thing the next day. Well, I do sometimes wear the same leggings/jeans but deffo a new top.

Who is this person? The podcast link doesn't work but she sounds a bit of a prat.

She's certainly not a prat in the slightest, she's a woman that grew up in inner city birmingham, had a dad that was in and out do prison, brothers that went in and out of prison, even for murder, has escaped dv and is rasing her children and doing a bloody good job, still smiling, still searching for the sun

So who is she? Googling "jameila" doesn't bring up anything and suggests it's a typo for Jamelia. There's loads of women called Jamelia.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 02/03/2025 14:43

Still doesn't work.

Doing OP’s work for her, this might be it.

It’s 2 and a half hours long OP, can you give us a clue how many minutes in the dress comments are?

JennyTals · 02/03/2025 16:44

I'd say after the half way
Point

I'll try and find the exact spot later

Presumably you keep the dress clean, it's a staple item in a neutral colour and it helps you learn how to accessorise. Thus you stop buying crap you don't need.

It's a great idea and a worthwhile experiment.

Yes this is correct. I wore the same dress every day for 100 days , I learned to pair it with different clothes I already owned and be more creative with my wardrobe without buying anything new. I obviously did a good job as no one noticed.

I have children and do housework and a job just like most people. I always wear an apron for housework or cooking so I don’t have to wash my clothes unnecessarily. I care about the environment and my electricity bill.

I spot cleaned the dress when it needed it, the same as other outer layers of clothing. Merino is naturally very resistant to stains and smells. I shower daily and use wool safe antiperspirant, so I don’t smell.

That isn't what OP is referring to. She meant the non remarkable achievement of wearing dresses for 30 days.

BellissimoGecko · 02/03/2025 18:18

AyeBeeSea · 01/03/2025 20:04

You don't have to wash a merino dress after every wear.

That depends on what you do surely. I work with four year olds. I practically have to burn my clothes at the front door never mind wash them.

😂😂 Yeah, this might not be ideal for people who work with kids...

MaggieBsBoat · 02/03/2025 18:24

I did the wool& 100 day challenge. I love my merino dress. I only washed it every 10 days or so. Didn’t smell and looks perfect. It makes you reassess the clothes you have and why. I have now spent money on some quality wool tops/cardigans and plan on not wasting more money on clothes than necessary for the rest of my life!
