Anyone recommend any treatments for upper eyelids before a blepheroplasty?

eyeI · 26/02/2025 19:52

I suspect I will need a blepheroplasty when I am older as generations of my family have had old age obscured vision by v. saggy eyelids.

I am not quite there yet but on the way.

Has anyone had anything for this area (skin starting to sag and lose tone) that actually worked (or at least helped) that is non-surgical?

Thanks.

@minipie

What do you mean not a vanity issue? Are you worried about excess skin affecting your sight eventually? This is pretty rare I believe.

It's a genetic thing. I have numerous relatives who when they got older had to have surgery because excess skin obscure their vision. The eyelid skin starts to rest over the eyelash line. I am a long way from this because I am younger but because it is genetic, I know I will need it done.

I can't find a picture of exactly the right thing but sort of like this is developing on the top image

@Sashya @scorchedwitch

I believe that surgery lasts about 10 years so I want to delay it for as long as possible so I don't need to have it again. It's a fine balance between young enough to heal well but not too young to do it too early.

They definitely cut through the lids and remove skin, and I've never heard of glue - all of the people in my online group have had stitches.
I paid £5,000 for people asking why wait - it's not always pocket money prices!

blueshoes · 26/02/2025 20:38

How old are you OP?

People get bleph done much earlier than the picture you linked to.

MonthsofTherapy · 26/02/2025 20:39

I'm 40 and have always had hooded eyes. They are getting worse but mostly, I notice they make my eyes feel tired. If I lift the skin off my lid I feel amazing! I hadn't realised how having that much pressure was making my eyes feel. I'm very tempted by bleph, for that reason but also vanity.

Was your local or GA?

Don’t know anyone who had it personally ally but I follow this (reputable) plastic surgeon on insta who recently posted about eco2. The post is here but she’s currently got some stories showing the before and after

I am 50, I have had a very small amount of Botox in the brow area to even out some asymmetry (one side of my brow has drooped a bit lower than the other). The Botox has helped with this but it’s not the same thing as having excess skin around the eyelids.

I have also had microneedling but have not heard of this being done on the eyelids. The skin is very delicate there? It was good for overall tone but I can’t say it did much in the way of lifting.

I have a micro current device which does give a temporary lifting effect. I use it 5 times a week and I think it’s good, but again it wouldn’t impact excess eyelid skin I don’t think.

I reckon surgery would be the way to go if and when you feel you want to do something about it.

The models in the before and after photos are so young. I doubt I see much of a difference because they did not need whatever that treatment was in the first place.

Sorry, but not convinced.

OverpricedCupcake · 26/02/2025 20:51

I have eyes like the picture, except I'm younger so not as wrinkled, it's genetic.
I absolutely can't afford bleph so use tape day.
It's maybe slightly for vanity but mainly because it helps my vision, especially when I'm tired.
For pennies a day, the tape is miraculous.

Breadcat24 · 26/02/2025 20:53

Please do not plasma pen
you will get a load of scarring and no benefit
there are lots of threads on here

Which tape do you get, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah I think if you want real results you get the bleph but OP wants to delay that so it’s an alternative. The before and after stories in her current stories are older women (and the first one actually looks quite impressive I thought).

The patient in the photos looks very old, the skin is so crinkly and loose. Although they look better afterwards, I thought the skin would look more tightened.

mauvish · 26/02/2025 21:06

I've had bilat upper blepharoplasties. That was about 25 years ago and they're nearly back to how they were before the initial surgery. The difference is of course that I'm 25 years older, and my brow is now lower. which doesn't help.

A one-off payment for surgery now (if you have to pay) would almost certainly be much cheaper than 25 years worth of tweakments!

minipie · 26/02/2025 21:07

Ah I see OP

In that case I would use tape to stave off having the surgery - pp OverpricedCupcake says it works well for any vision obstruction issues

Bear in mind that if you leave it too long then surgeons may not want to operate on you anyway for age reasons

What age have your relatives had it done?

Read them- how scary! Will never consider having this done now!

Bignanna · 26/02/2025 21:11

How much is upper and lower blepharoplasty?

cheeseandbiscuitsplease · 26/02/2025 21:12

I used the tapes very successfully for many years, I was an expert at applying them! I didn't wear eyeshadow over them as you could see them through makeup but day to day with just mascara they were brilliant. I had a blethoplasty 3 years ago at Transform. Money well spent and I've never regretted it. A week's healing time with no problems. I'm 53. X

There is no age limit to facial cosmetic surgery, surely?

wwyd2021medicine · 26/02/2025 21:17

OP if you are within distance of Birmingham I've got an oculo plastic surgeon that I could recommend.

They don’t cur through - they take off an upper layer of skin. At least when it is done in younger age by cosmetic surgeons.
I am guess ing - it may be different when the procedure is done on NHS and with a much more dramatic sagging - as on pictures OP posted.

As to stitching of the skin - it probably depends on a doctor. And maybe technology had moved on. I did mine in Central London about a year ago and had no stitches. Blood-vessels were cauterised, then there was some antibiotic cream on the ‘wound’ -that I had to reapply frequently. The skin closed up and healed on its own. My doctor prefers this method as the scarring is much less visible this way.

I imagine a reputable cosmetic surgeon wouldn’t want to operate on someone where there were high concerns about friable skin, slow skin healing, clotting, vascular strength, infection risk … these are all things that get worse as we age

Bodumb · 26/02/2025 21:26

My husband had it done a couple of weeks ago upper and under eyelid. Stitches in the eye that had to be removed a week after. Quite painful.
