Jewellery. Not expensive but classic and beautiful.

I don't have any.

I'd like some.

I am not at all rich. I don't want stuff that will turn my ears and wrists green either.

Is there a retailer that sells beautiful, classic but not expensive jewellery? Earrings and bracelets mostly.

I like missoma. It’s a good mid range jewellery brand. Current but reasonably classic.

RainingRoses · 26/02/2025 08:19

Have a look at brands like Monica Vinader and Missoma. They’re reasonably priced (especially when a sale is on) and also have classic pieces.

Preciousssssss · 26/02/2025 08:23

Classic generally means ‘real’ - which is always going to be expensive to buy new.

Thirty years ago I spent about £350 on a pair of earrings - simple gold hoops with a tiny emerald drop. I’ve worn them pretty much every day since - so the cost per wear has been good. (Even so, they have very little resale value.)

So, you could save up. Or be nice to your nearests and dearests and look forward to Christmas / birthdays.

Or dive into the secondhand / vintage market.

Or look to somewhere like:

Cos

that always has some tasteful, but not too twee costume jewellery for not much money.

Summerhillsquare · 26/02/2025 08:38

Antique shops if you want solid precious metals and stones, not cheap of course.

Talipesmum · 26/02/2025 08:44

Agree with all suggestions above. For high
street - so you can easily go and look at it - take a look at Warren James. Some nice simple things in there, always looks like good value for a simple chain or bracelet. It won’t turn you green because I think it’s all sterling silver, or gold vermeil (same as Monica v).

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 26/02/2025 08:54

Thank you very much for the pointers.

Not sure if you'd class these as classic designers, but have a look at Sheila Fleet and Fluid By Design (Sarah Clarke). I have a Sheila Fleet ring which I've had over 20 years and still love it. Ditto a Fluid By Design rose gold pendant which I bought over a decade ago.

caffelattetogo · 26/02/2025 10:31

Buy secondhand and get it for a fraction of the price.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 26/02/2025 10:34

Pandora is good for low budget real jewellery in classic styles. It's not all charm bracelets.

luckylavender · 26/02/2025 12:36

Pandora isn't classic and Monica Vinader isn't cheap. Actually neither is Pandora. If you want real then second hand is good or somewhere like Pilgrim

Chuchoter · 26/02/2025 12:45

Stainless steel doesn't tarnish and won't turn your skin green!

If you want inexpensive jewellery the look at one of the many stainless steel brands.

Bohomoon is always appearing on Facebook. I have no idea of the quality as I've never worn stainless steel jewellery but this is a simple and classic style and dirt cheap

henlake7 · 26/02/2025 12:53

I quite like Henryka....been wearing one of their necklaces for quite a while and havent turned green yet!

salemcooper · 26/02/2025 12:59

I recently bought these for work and absolutely love them. Ralph Lauren pearl earrings (not real pearl) but surprisingly affordable! I'd say they're a good investment if you're a "buy one classic bit of jewellery and wear it all the time" kind of person.

Was going to suggest COS too. Some of it is sculptural and so very timeless. The droplet earrings and the sculpted cuffs make me think of Elsa Peretti - it's clear her jewellery is an inspiration point for many of their pieces.

It's also really good quality for the price, and the perfect entry point while you figure out what you like/want (should you want to spend more).

Londonmummy66 · 26/02/2025 15:01

I like Nue Hoops - you buy the hoops and then can add charms to mix and match. Not cheap cheap but once you have the hoops and a couple of charms you can save up to buy more to ring the changes. https://nuehoops.com/?srsltid=AfmBOooHtHXuNVvY44u9OKtGCX-bI-X_pBKvFpZma1KWa2eCb4MFDgOE

I have gold hoops with the large baroque pearl drops and the jacks and silver hoops with the jacks and shells. I have a voucher so am currently toying with getting silver stacking stars.

I also quite like geometric/brutalist jewellery and you can usually pick them up quite cheaply on ebay. I find that the chains can be a bit cheap and nasty so take pendants off and put them on a wire instead.

Auction is your friend here .. the real deal for a fraction of the price .. look at out of London auction houses ... I picked up diamond earrings (studs) and single solitaire diamond drop (1920s) for £80 last year at Battle auction (near Hastings) you bid online so don't need to go there !

Yes I agree - really good bargains to be had at reputable auction houses.

BeretRaspberry · 26/02/2025 15:29

I have worn some white gold diamond studs pretty much exclustively for the past 23 years and then I fancied a change, so I bought these pearl studs from Next and I honestly love them.

There are a couple of negative ish reviews but I think they’re great, especially for the low cost.

BaronessBomburst · 26/02/2025 15:33

Marks and Spencer can be surprisingly good too.

Cuppachuchu · 26/02/2025 15:35

John Lewis has some nice classic jewellery at various prices, and also a second hand section.

eyestosee · 26/02/2025 15:54

Silver jewellery with semi precious stones / lab grown stones can be fairly inexpensive. Often crystal shops sell a good range of it. Etsy has lots of it too. Hard wearing - no plating to wear off or glass to chip.

There was a woman sitting opposite me on a train yesterday - with a man who seemed besotted with her, though she appeared somewhat chillier. She was wearing some real diamond studs. I know they were real because they were absolutely the tiniest ear studs I’ve ever seen. Scarcely larger than a pin head. And really, faintly depressing. They definitely didn’t enliven or enhance her appearance - just seemed like a mark of ownership …

What am I trying to say? Maybe it’s not always worthwhile to sacrifice fun and delight for ‘real’ and classic?
