I'm 60, size 16, no waist to speak of, bra 36ff.

I've been living in leggings or jeggings, but I'm utterly fed up of them and of looking scruffy. I do like high waisted jeans though.

Can anyone recommend great stretchy high waisted jeans that aren't skinny and will suit my figure/ size? I'm on a tight budget but often buy on vinted

Also smart-ish jumpers/tops to go with them for every day wear. I work from home so anything goes.

Happy to consider other trousers or even skirts, not just jeans.

Not bothered about being fashionable, comfort is more important really, so no tight waist bands.

Sorry, I'm clueless!

It’s quite difficult to avoid fashion. And I don’t quite see why you perceive fashionable clothes to be inimical to comfort? Surely nothing could be easier and less restrictive to wear than a tiered dress at whatever length you prefer? And they’re everywhere.

I doubt you’d find much that’s more comfortable than this, for instance:

But anyway - surely your life isn’t all comfy wfh clothes? Do you never go out? Or entertain at home. Unless you genuinely are completely housebound you might be wise to engineer some reasons and events to take you out of your clothing comfort zone …

M&S Eva or Sienna jeans are high waisted and comfortable, slightly stretchy. Eva is bootleg, Sienna straight leg.
They also do stretchy pull on flares, also wide or straight leg. I really like the flares.
Saint & Sofia’s apartment pants are flattering and comfortable.

I'm not trying to avoid fashion, I just don't find being fashionable that important, for example I don't care if flares or skinny jeans are "in".

The dress is lovely, but wouldn't be practical for me at home really, my kitten would be hanging off the hem all the time 😆

Of course I go out sometimes. I tend to wear jeans then too though. I don't entertain at home no.

Thank you. I have a pair of Sienna straight jeans. I just wondered what would suit my figure. To be honest I don't fancy flares- flashbacks to when I was a child in the seventies!

I would suggest a two- pronged approach. First - go through your wardrobe and recycle, sell or donate anything that is worm out or doesn't suit you or your lifestyle. Identify gaps in your wardrobe, if you've chucked out all of your scruffy trousers, you will probably need more. Second - this is the time consuming part, set aside some time to browse online or in person. Be open minded, fabrics and cuts have changed over time as well as you and your body. Unless you are buying vintage flares, they will not be the same fit or style now.

You say you want jeans, but you might find that cords, chinos, or jersey wide legged trousers are all better on your body or for your lifestyle. It's not about being "fashionable" it's about being comfortable in your own style. If you wear it and feel good in it, people will notice your confidence not that something is unfashionable.

Plain smart jumpers, try Phase Eight. They do a batwing style which is very comfortable to wear as it's not restrictive or bulky. Order online from P8 and then if you like them there's loads on Vinted all different colours.

Do you have a denim shirt? This kind of thing with shirt open over either black jeans and a tee, or leggings and longer tee, is so effortless but always looks good to me. Also love a checked shirt.

I think it would be worthwhile looking at some of the Melissa Murrell videos on YouTube/Instagram re. jeans. There was one very recently & I think there's another one coming up this Sunday. Basically saying that stretch jeans are unflattering on fat bellies as they mould around it & non-stretch jeans are the way to go. There's also a plethora of advice on body types of all ages that might be useful for you.

These are current favourite jeans (just bought them in a second colour they're so comfy!). Don't be put off by the "slim" fit description, I carry all my weight around my waist and thighs and they fit really well in my normal size.Buy Black Slim Supersoft Jeans from the Next UK online shop
A quick browse around the high street suggests that denim is very in this season - lots of denim shirts and jackets worn over a plain t-shirt on display on the manequins, also loose fit plain or striped shirts and tailored cardigans / jackets too.

I am size 18, 62, rounded tum, just bought this in the longer length and love it, including that it is lined, does not have the dreaded waist seam and the ruching is very flattering. I've tried it with a variety of jackets and it work on a casual / dressed up basis. https://www.marksandspencer.com/mesh-jersey-printed-midi-skater-dress/p/clp60691929#intid=pid_pg1pip11g4r3c2

I don't actually, used to have one, but it went to the charity shop ages ago.

I do have checked shirts though, I wear them over black vest tops.

Love the Next jeans.

I'd get yourself a denim shirt and a striped one and a couple of vest tops or t-shirts to wear under them, then you can mix and match outfits by wearing just the shirt or open with a top underneath. There's a lot of blue/white/black/denim colours in at the moment that would all mix and match well.
these cardigans seem to be around a lot too so you could get something similar to wear over a t-shirt Knitted Tipped Detail Relaxed Cardigan | M&S Collection | M&S

Sorry not keen on the cardigan. Yes to the shirts over vest tops though, I'll look out for one on vinted.

Sorry I'm not a fan of that, too busy for me and not sure about the neckline, but I can see it would be flattering on the waist.

These are really comfortable even if they are a bit of a cliche https://www.marksandspencer.com/side-stripe-wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60634393

I usually wear with a tight fitting white t shirt like this https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0996759023.html under a top with a v neck. These are my favourite https://conquista-fashion.com/collections/tops-new/products/black-long-sleeve-faux-wrap-top-in-stretch-jersey-sustainable-fabric

I find that the v neck of the main top diminishes the bustiness whilst the t shirt underneath provides coverage as too much cleavage can be a bit "mutton". The wide leg trousers help balance out the boobs too.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 26/02/2025 15:25

You need a lower neckline or v neck with bigger boobs.

Have a look at Oliver Bonas. Most of their stuff is casual, but colourful.

I do tend to stick with V neck or scoop neck tops.
