Trainers for someone with osteoarthritis/Plantar Fasciitis

Fed up really of trying things in store(what little we have near by) or ordering and having to send back. Plus then charges sometimes for doing that.
I have stuck to Skechers for some time now, I like and need the padding for extra comfort. Though I read somewhere, someone was told not to wear them by a physio as too squishy.

I stupidly in the Autumn when looking for a new pair for Winter months. Bought a pair from Sports Direct with the insole missing in the left shoe, bearing in mind it's inbuilt, it makes a huge difference. No adding my own insoles has helped at all, if anything it's made it worse.
So flared plantar up more, ankle issues as when I am walking too much movement, and step affected because of missing insole.

I then found a pair for a cheap price on sale online, but sole too low not enough heel and can feel everything, shocked too as they are from the go walk range they do. But I was in a mad rush to get something to replace the ones above.

So now I am stuck with using the first ones until I sort something out.

I need cushioning, Podiatrist did say ASICS too, although many are pricey, I do look on eBay though. Also pretty much all of ASICS seem to be running trainers 🤷🏻‍♀️ but the gel ones were recommended.

I need open toe box because they are better for our feet anyway, plus because I have bunions. And as mentioned cushioning but not a thin flat sole, something with an arch/heel.

Sorry for the long post, hoping to hear from some of you who might have similar issues to me.

I only wear trainers. Which I feel so boring about anyway, I do think what else do people wear, like if I had to wear smart shoes i would be in trouble 😃 because that would bring another whole host of issues.

I didn't even have sandals the past couple of summers 😌 because of just not finding something that is suitable. I tried a good few.

Thankyou

I wear ASICS and it’s never come back. FitFlop are what people seem to recommend

BestIsWest · 25/02/2025 11:43

I have ASICS for exercise but day to day, Fitflops pretty much cured my Plantar Fasciitis and I’m dedicated to them now in case it comes back. I’ve got the Rally and the F-mode.

Air max have a good support. I've had Rally trainers but still needed to put an arch insole in with them - don't need that with airmax.

Not massively trendy but Skechers arch support are really comfortable. I have awkward feet with osteoarthritis in my right big toe joint. A lot of trainers press on this and it causes pain. Surprisingly I can't wear Dr Martens because of this too.

I wear Hoka Cliftons and On Cloudstratus trainers with custom insoles. If you are looking for a smarter shoe, Sole Bliss are now my go to brand as the only ones that don't make my arthritic big toes hurt

My proper trainers are Karhu metarsi, my everyday trainers are skechers arch fit and my summer shoes are oofos sliders. I wear those most of the time as I need the cushioning too. I feel your pain. Literally😫

Fit Flop shoes are great for my PF, particularly those with a microwobbleboard sole or the F-Mode styles.

For shoes with a wide toe box have a look at Fitville - there is loads on Amazon. I’ve had sandals and trainers from there.

I actually bought orthotic insoles for plantar fasciitis and I just use them in whatever trainers I'm wearing.

SharpLily · 25/02/2025 13:43

Fitflops are the way to go.

It's awful isn't it the pain in the big toe joint. I might have to get the joint fused at some point.

There is a brand called Calla that is for bunions/wide feet and has arch support & good soles - but they are not cheap!

Thankyou for all of your responses so far. Going to have a look through the names that you have mentioned.
Never had a pair of Fitflops I might give them a try.

Yes I have orthotics made for me by the Podiatrist. I hadn't put them in as the trainers I had rain just seemed to soak through the soles 🤦‍♀️ and i didn't want them ruined.
This is another issue I find, not sure with other brands. But they get wet easily which is annoying.
