Do you take care of your body skin? And how so?

I was at the gym and in the changing rooms, I saw a woman brushing her body with pnw of those wooden brushes to aid circulation, she was doing it for quite a while and then spent ages putting on some body oil as well.
It made me think and realise I do literally nothing to keep a healthy skin on my body. I just shower and get dressed as quickly as possible. As a teenager and also in my early 20s, I used to apply body lotion almost every day but then I just lost the habit. I’d like to get back on track with that but I feel I can only be bothered and persuaded if there are actually going to be some tangible results. Will my skin look different?
Does anyone also use body brushes to aid circulation and eliminate dead cells? After seeing that woman I am tempted to do the same!

I don't use the body brushes-I felt like I was being attacked but I do have pretty sensitive skin.
I use a body scrub once a week and body lotion every day.
I often wonder if I should step my body skincare up -I spend quite a bit of time and money on my facial skincare so in comparison my body routine appears to be lacking!

I do use body lotion in the summer but it makes me so cold that I can't use it the rest of the year round :(

TheChosenTwo · 23/02/2025 18:26

Rarely! I take good care of my face skin but only think about my body when summer or holidays roll around. Just cba and tbh my body skin seems fine as it is.

I buy bags of vitamin C powder from a health store, and chuck that on as a body scrub.
I use Raw Organic Coconut Oil on wet skin.
I let the shower run cold for the last 2 minutes.
My skin always feels great, but could be genetics.

Eeeurggghhh!

And this is why I stay away from gyms.

How can you bear it? Complete strangers sloughing off their skin in public.

Honestly makes me feel sick.

henlake7 · 23/02/2025 19:38

It is weird how much of a production some people seem to make of changing at the gym!

Personally I use an exfoliating bodypuff when i shower and slap on some body lotion afterwards.
That's about it though.

Doggymummar · 23/02/2025 19:40

My skin is so crepey I noticed yesterday. All I had was some aftersun so I sloshed it on. I need to be better.

Practicepracticepracticeagain · 23/02/2025 19:40

I dry body brush and use body moisturiser every day. Wouldn’t do it at the gym though!

NewYearNewDietAgain · 23/02/2025 19:41

I use those sponges with the rough/exfoliating layer on it. Removes all the dead skin. I also moisturise after almost every shower and bath.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/02/2025 19:58

I like using a brush before getting in the shower - then a shower oil, rather than soap or shower gel - and a combination of emollient ointment and bog standard E45 lotion.

LostInAMist · 23/02/2025 20:11

I find that a bit grim to be doing in a public changing room... Anyway. I'm probably a bit to harsh with my body skin. I used a tea tree shower gel, and a really rough scrubby sponge and I scrub in a fairly hot shower... But I work outdoors in a smelly job, and I don't feel clean any other way. Hands, feet, elbows and knees get a bit of fast absorbing body lotion and that's it!

redstripestar · 23/02/2025 22:51

I have a natural shower mitt that does the job of exfoliating. I use it every time I shower with soap. I also shave my legs every time I shower as it's the only way to stop them getting itchy.

Moisturiser wise, I used to use Palmers cocoa butter every time after showering. Recently switched to the Garnier skin food range - it's great and not expensive. Comes in lots of different smells - the coconut one is nice and good for intensive overnight moisturising. Day to day I love the mango one - it feels like it brightens my skin and smells lovely. They also don't have lots of chemicals in (thanks Yuka app).

I usually have a bath once a week with epsom salts which helps soften my skin. Also wierdly have a bath with running porridge oats under the tap - it creates oat milk in the bath and my skin feels amazing after.

And use heel cream regularly to stop dry heels.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 23/02/2025 23:40

I have a bath or shower every night and will always moisturise, use body oil, or bath oil or if I'm in a hurry, shower oil.

A lot of posters have noted on threads like this that soap seems to leave their body less dry than shower gel and having switched back to soap, I agree.

dothedanceofjoy · 23/02/2025 23:59

Yep, I use a scrub glove in the shower, either with good soap or with L'Occitane almond shower oil, then I use a lotion or body oil after. I always mean to get into body brushing but never can stick at it long enough to see any effects.

I find Aesop body balms very effective, but pricey, so I don't use them all the time. Got some perfectly nice options from other makes, and in a pinch, plain almond oil will do.

HollyBerryz · 24/02/2025 00:09

Body brushing definitely helps with my cellulite when I do it regularly. Plus it gets off any dead flaky skin

rumkar · 24/02/2025 17:43

I find shaving once a week, full body moisturising once or twice a day and staying in shape with pilates have kept my skin firm (ish) and looking healthy. I'm not sure how much of a difference those apparatus make but it can't hurt to try.

Back21970 · 24/02/2025 18:27

I body brush almost daily in the lead up holidays , makes a big difference, rest of the time it’s once a week or so, but still worth doing.

Any body lotion helps, even coconut oil but lately I have splashed out on Prai Arm cream and do see a slight improvement in the tone of my upper arms.

I find scrubs a bit slushy and can work expensive but might check out the Vit C powder.

I use a Korean cloth after a hot bath or shower, you need to use it on lightly damp skin. The dead skin that comes off is both revolting and strangely fascinating. So smooth afterwards! I just use a very light moisturiser afterwards, I'm lucky that I don't have very dry skin.
