Semi-permanent box hair dye - are ANY actually great on greys?

I have darkish brown hair with some natural lightening towards the lower mids and ends. I'm now starting to get some grey, centred around the front and I want to cover it...but ideally from home and without changing my whole head colour.

Reasons being:

  1. I really like my natural colour, especially the natural lightening towards the ends. I don't want to cover it all up with a block dark brown colour.
  2. I am lazy. I have no inclination to get highlights or my hair done properly at a hairdressers or to need to deal with upkeep/obvious root line, frequent visits etc. I honestly just cba 😂

Ideally what I'd like to do is put a temporary box dye on myself once a month in dark blonde, to hopefully blend the greys to look more like natural highlights whilst leaving most of my hair relatively unchanged and less obvious roots until the next application.

So far I've tried NicenEasy Demi permanent/no ammonia in shade 73 Medium Ash Blonde. And it was OK - a definite improvement in some of the greys but a few were left totally untouched.

I know all about only permanent dyes opening the hair follicle etc (have bored myself to tears already reading it!) but clearly some demi permanents do work to a degree on greys, hence my middling results on my first try.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a semi/demi permanent, dark blonde colour, that they've been amazed by? Or any tips on improving the 'take' of semi permanents?

TIA!

I use a Castings one, I'll try to find the shade. I am brunette with a lot of grey now. I find it blends my greys in and then fades eventually so I have less defined grey roots.
Interestingly, when I tried their dark blonde it came out darker on my hair than the light brown.

I like Casting by L'Oréal.Covers my grey and fades evenly without an obvious line.
I don't use blond shades but you can maybe Google to find out what shade would suit you best?

Have you tried using a root touch up spray? They're brilliant, lasts until you wash your hair. You only need one tiny spritz. It is ideal if you only have a small amount of grey.

Forgot to say, I use the L'Oréal one.

Try professional colour lines at Sally Beauty. They have a huge selection, many more options than you can get in box dyes. I buy a tube of XP100 colour line 100ml for approx £13 and 1 litre of developer for £7.15. That's enough colour for two applications and at least 5-6 uses of the developer. It's not much different to box dye prices.

I was a bit intimidated by professional brands for some reason. I don't know why. It was much easier to get a match for my natural root colour. I buy a low volume developer (the liquid you mix the colour with) because the ones in semi/demi box colours are too strong and tend to lift my natural colour.
