Had biabs removed, nails are a mess!

This is the first time I've had biabs, always gone for a gel manicure on top of my natural nail.

Whilst I enjoyed having lovely long nails with a French manicure finish, now they've been removed, my real nails feel so damaged.

I can still see something on my nails..unless that's where part of the real nail has come off! So they're not completely smooth.

Can anyone recommend something I can use to now strengthen my nails?

Tia

You just need to cut them down so they don’t break and let them grow out. Strengthening products won’t give you the result you’re looking for.

How were they removed? If it was acetone it’s probably this that has messed up your real nails rather than the biab. I use polygel and then a drill to file off and my nails are fine. I used to use acetone and my nails ended up bendy and felt paper thin, it was horrible.

My nails were destroyed by biab too. And also year later I still have 1 damaged nail.

My nails are short & I've been looking after them intensively for months now.

They were really weak & constantly breaking & peeling. I don't clip them or cut them anymore. I only use a nail file.

I have manicure type nail file with different zones on it for different things- one section smooths ridges, one buffs, one polishes etc

I use this about once a week & I have not worn nail polish in a year

This system improved my nail enormously & they're looking v healthy now apart from the first finger of right hand. The nail seems damaged from the bed so I'm hoping it'll grow out eventually

I use a cuticle oil & also massage it into my nails

I use handcream religiously & i wear washing up gloves always

I'm careful not to use my nails to pry packages etc open
.
My nails are now cared for looking but it's taken a year

My nails were ruined the last time I had gels done . I used Sally Henson Maximum Growth and this really helped. It sounds like you also need to buff them gently and use an oil.

freshprincess · 21/02/2025 13:15

I keep mine really short and use rimmel strengthening polish.
I still get gel done but always have at least a months break in between. Don’t think I would do BIAB again.

How did they remove them? I've had biab on for years with no problems, my nails underneath are really healthy, I have infills two weekly and get them full soaked off every 6 weeks.

As I always do, I recommend you check out The Salon Life on YouTube and follow her tips for caring for natural nails.

You can’t repair the nails once they’re damaged, only improve the look, so you will need to let them grow out fully. Keeping them short is the best thing for this as it will reduce any pressure on the weakened nails.

As for acetone, it’s a myth it damages nails. It’s temporarily drying but that’s it - and nothing some oil won’t replenish. The woman from The Salon Life soaked some nail clippings in acetone for a few weeks and nothing happened to them. No disintegration or anything. I believe acetone occurs in our bodies too.

I honestly think this is a thing where some people’s nails are fine with gels and biab and some peoples are destroyed.

mine are the latter. I thought I had found a fudge with press on gel sheets but no. Lanolin or olive oil in your cuticles at night, hand cream, make sure you eat collagen or gelatin, short neat rounded nails. It’s so annoying!

Wolfiefan · 21/02/2025 13:24

I have BIAB. it doesn’t affect my nails. Grinding it off would. They should buff the top layer and then soak off.
Regular hand cream and cuticle oil. Wear gloves to wash up. I use nail envy if I have bare nails.

JMAngel1 · 21/02/2025 14:23

This is interesting as I’ve been looking into BIAB instead of gels as the claims are that they are less damaging than gel? I have had a terrible time with gels in the past and now my real nails are fairly good but I can never keep polish on them / they chip within 24 hours so I never feel properly “done”. I was thinking about BIAB instead but will have to think again!

MonkeyTennis34 · 21/02/2025 15:19

The only reason I went for Biabs was because I needed a false nail, mine are so short.

If I had naturally long and strong nails, I'd have a Shellac.

It's such a shame as I loved having the Biabs on. Really not sure whether I'd have them again.

The guy that soaked them off also filed my own nails really short, which I didn't want!

I've had a terrible time with BIABS!!

Taken a long time to grow out the damage wont have them again.

SamwiseTheBodyguard · 22/02/2025 08:25

The only thing that has worked for my nails is eating AS MUCH protein as you can. I tried nail oils, strengthening varnishes and none of it worked. I started in the James Smith academy training schedule and they recommend eating a lot of protein for weight loss. The unexpected side effects was the effects it's had on my nails.

First picture of my nails in early 2024 (picture I posted when I asked for miracle cure for my own nails not damaged due to false nails or gel nail varnish, just shit) and the second picture is today. I don't do anything to my nails other than occasionally put a clear coat of polish on because I'm crap at nail varnish and it just chips

So you’ve only had one set of BIABs? It sounds like they either weren’t put on/removed very well.

never had a problem with them

MonkeyTennis34 · 22/02/2025 09:46

@BeautyBlanche
Yes I think you're right, I don't think they were removed properly.

Having said that....looking at them this morning, they don't look as bad as they were!
