Uniglo

Why is Uniglo so popular, they are some of the most boring clothes I've ever seen.
I need colour excitement.

Uniqlo is all about wearable, comfortable basics. They're good foundation pieces for capsule wardrobes.

Heat tech shirts are great cold weather layers that last. I've got a couple that are 10 years old. The t shirts are excellent quality. The pants, same. Their jeans have the best fit for me. My youngest loves their lightweight down jackets and they last a few winters.

The one thing I don't care for from them is their cashmere sweaters. They're scratchy compared to any other cashmere I've had.

I like the Heatgen thermal tops but otherwise I pretty much agree. I have had some nice things via the charity shop but they have been collab pieces.

I can't really criticise as I'm currently wearing Llama catoflage (camo with cats) joggers and an acid pink jumper. Just curious what people think 😁I can see what you mean about basics though. I suppose it would be OK with some colour added.

I have their navy wide leg cords from last year. They're a brilliant foil for wearing orange or pink.

They're good for basics and sometimes their cuts can be more contemporary than many other stores. Their collaboration ranges are always worth a look. The current JW Anderson Collab has some interesting cropped oxford shirts.

HolidayHappy123 · 19/02/2025 13:52

The merino crew necks are the best.

I wear mostly designer but I have the merino in several colours and wear them often.

Cashmere gloves, scarves and hats are nice and make good Xmas presents.

Cashmere T-shirts are also nice, but I agree the rest of their cashmere is not the best.

Uniqlo are not boring, they just provide key items / wardrobe staples, that it can be difficult to find elsewhere, at the price / quality. I have the heatech, jumpers, bra tops and items I've bought for DH are also well received and he is tough on his clothing.

outerspacepotato · 19/02/2025 14:17

My all black wardrobe would set yours off nicely. I do wear pops of navy and blue. 😁

I agree that the Uniqlo merino sweaters are nice.

I admit to having a knockoff Oodie with flying cats on it to wear around my old cold place. My neighbor judges it.

Beowulfa · 19/02/2025 14:27

If you work outdoors, thin warm layers are necessary; I have a long sleeved top in burnt orange and a fleece polo neck in jewel green. Their pyjamas are 100% cotton (nice and thick) and come in grown-up styles (ie classic check), not hearts, cartoon animals and I Luv Sleeping slogans.

They do decent basics, they're not supposed to be exciting.

AmeliaTangfastic · 19/02/2025 14:36

It's meant to be boring. It is alright for basics. Reminds me a bit of how Gap used to be

Microbantime · 19/02/2025 19:26

They do basics and do them well. Excellent thermals, jackets and coats, jumpers and trousers. I am not a fan of their jeans and dresses but loads to choose from usually.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/02/2025 19:28

Excellent basics and heattech is good too. My dcs wore lots of uniqlo as both had a very small waist.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2025 23:01

I agree that their biggest downfall is their sludgy colours.

I have a dress, some T-shirts and a merino jumper from them and they are excellent, but I wish they would introduce more colours into their range, and trousers with longer leg lengths.

As a jewel winter most of their colours just don't suit me.

HansHolbein · 19/02/2025 23:13

I’ve never looked at their stuff before. Just went on their website and I’m finding it very faffy. Is it just me?

TippledPink · 19/02/2025 23:17

Love uniqlo- have some great gym wear from there and some casual tops I get compliments on. I used to love their skinny jegging trousers in black but don't wear them as much now. Also have some knit dresses that I got a compliment on yesterday at work! They are great for staples and good quality.

VoodooPigeon · 19/02/2025 23:32

Uniqlo do normcore well, it's kind of their USP.

MissedItByThisMuch · 20/02/2025 01:15

Well one person’s “boring” is another person’s “classy/classic/neutral”. Just like one person’s “fun and exciting” is another person’s “loud and tacky”…🤷🏼‍♀️
I think they do good quality, well priced basics that are great for adding to. (Plus their fit works really well for my very tall, skinny teen sons).

redstripestar · 20/02/2025 01:23

Agree on the colours but that's half the high street. They make colours that any season can wear therefore they become no definable colour. There's a few finds in store but so hard to shop online.

Britpopbaby · 26/02/2025 18:07

I was in yesterday and have to say the quality of the JW Anderson cropped shirt was excellent.

Cantonet · 26/02/2025 21:20

I have to say I thought similarly to you.
I find the website totally uninspiring. I ordered & sent back lots of heat tech variants, as I felt like a shrink-wrapped sausage dressed in them. But then I found several items I really liked. The down trench coat in beige ( bought the blue as well in the sales), a powder soft down jacket for dog walking, a fleece heat tech t shirt & the fleece polo necks in the sales. Plus baker jeans ( barrel legs in a sturdy denim). I also follow some Instagram accounts that feature Uniqlo & make it look glamorous ( which the website really doesn't).
