dress for 15 year old to go out in

DD has been asked to wear a dress to go out for dinner with her friends so they all look dressed up. I think they are wearing fitted/short length/plain dresses. Where should she buy one and what style to fit in? As in where do your daughters buy theirs and what do they wear. Then what about footwear/coat/jacket? DD wants to fit in rather than trend set/stand out.

I think you’re going to have to embrace shopping online - how else will she have access to everything available? With Bershka, for instance, you can order online and pick up in store - so she’d be able to try items on at once and reject if no good. (I don’t know how that store operates but so many shops now carry only a limited selection in store.)

Going to the website is a much more holistic experience, oddly enough. You’ll probably find answers to all your questions - suggestions for sizing, styling and what to wear with, etc, just by exploring.

Alternatively perhaps your daughter and her friends could go shopping together? (It doesn’t sound as if she has embraced the vintage / charity shop / Vinted way of doing things yet - they may discover that together.)

It isn’t clear whether you’re ascribing the added worry about shoes/accessories to your daughter or yourself? Buying shoes and accessories for dressy social occasions is a perfectly normal occurrence and it’s entirely appropriate that she should be learning to do this now. (In fact I commend whichever friend set this agenda!) You wouldn’t want her to get to university or apprenticeship age without knowing how to navigate a range of social engagements, would you? Feeling intimidated by the prospect of dressing up can really stultify a young adult’s social life. University football clubs, for instance, run on a constant timetable of balls and parties …

Why don’t you want to buy online @dressfor15 ?

The young folks here wear Nike, (mainly Dunks) New Balance or the chunky converse hi tops in the main, but also adidas campus.

The particular style of trainer is just as important as the brand, for fitting in

Hollister is my DDs place to go for dresses. She's 16. Her group of friends love their warm up to the big event, showing off their dress ("haul") on TikTok, then going out.
Hopefully she'll have a great time OP

I was also going to say Bershka and Hollister. My DD bought things from Stradivarius recently too but that was jeans and tops so I don’t know how they are for dresses. I discourage her buying from Shein because it turns up, half the time she doesn’t like it and my understanding is it all just goes into landfill if sent back.

Dd wears one from pull and bear (via asos) - short, clingy, black - with Adidas trainers and a hoodie. Plus immaculate hair and make up 😅

Urban Outfitters (shops and online), Motel Rocks (online only- lots of going out dresses. My DD's favourite shop)

Shein is better if they are very slim I think. It looks awful to me but I’m
old.

Hollister very much not the vibe here. So it’s definitely a good idea for her to chat to her friends about where to look

They all wear strappy bodycon mini dresses. Cropped aviator or leather jackets. Shein is where they shop.

Goodness me I'm so glad my DGD don't go out like that.

They are individuals with their own styles.

It’s not my cup of tea @StMarie4me but it is what it is. Some teens just want to fit in.
