Mother of the bride for a wedding in a field

The wedding will be in the summer in a European country in a field deep in the countryside. A sort of arty, alternative type venue (the kind of place they have aromatherapy or pottery retreats etc). The vibe will be fairly casual/boho type thing (I believe the bride is knitting her own dress!), but I do want something really special but not in any way formal looking. Could be dress (midi one) or trouser suit but must have sleeves (short ones). Any brands or actual dresses that anyone has seen that might fit the bill? Money not too much of an object, size should be 12-14.

Have a look at Alémais, Klements, Zimmerman , Erdem, Horror Vaccui.

Thanks, I will do.

also Karolina Ozolinsiute, NRBY, Pink City Prints, YBD

No suggestions for you but just wow to your DD knitting her own wedding dress!! Amazing!

If money isn't an issue then Farm Rio all the way...something like this?

Thanks for the suggestion of Farm Rio, I am very interested! Some of the other suggestions are rather "out there" for an old lady like me (!) but I have been having a fun time paging through dresses!

Gosh, how old are you? Grin

I’m early 60’s and would happily wear any of the brands suggested so far - except NRBY which just isn’t on my radar. (I like Farm Rio on other people though haven’t worn any myself.)

Wolf and Badger is usually worth a look - they have some lovely silk dresses in pretty prints. The Laura Ashley x Batsheva collab is worth a look too - John Lewis stocks it.

I'm 61! But I feel a bit old, especially looking at those dresses! Some of the more "unusual" dresses I looked at, fun though they look, seemed to me to be potentially inviting some ridicule if I was to wear them, but maybe I am wrong! Many things there I would have worn in my 20/30s though.

Also, importantly, I don't want to upstage DD by appearing to be trying to compete in looking over the top fabulous, or to stand out and draw eyes by being outrageous! It's her day and she is not the sort to wear anything startling at all, she'll be very classic, understated and down to earth if I know her. She is not going to be wearing anything very "out there" I am sure.

I have looked at Wolf and Badger and noted some dresses there. There is a blue one called "Maggie dress" which is somewhat my style. (I might want to wear blue as I am dressing teenage DS in blue and white and I thought we should sort of not clash. DH will be in white shirt and camel chinos so he won't clash with anyone!).

This one?

Maggie dress

Looks fine! Very casual wedding in a field. (I’m aware that some Europeans are less keen on printed dresses than we are in the UK - but it’s your family’s do so you set the tone. Besides, hand knitted dress!)

The Maggie dress is lovely

I also like this one... https://www.meandem.com/wild-bloom-print-maxi-dress-blue-orange-multi

Me and Em also has a beautiful blue cheesecloth jumpsuit that I am covering but that may not be your thing!

Agree with this. You can usually tell the Brits at a European wedding.
so depends on the country and if the other guests are mostly Brits too.

theDudesmummy · 19/02/2025 19:55

Yes that's the one. I also know she will be carrying sunflowers so the yellow flowers would match too. I'll keep looking but I am leaning to that one.

It's not really my family's do, it's in his family's country (and region of that country) and we have had no hand in it, just got an invitation like everyone else! (DD and her fiancé are both in their thirties and we weren't consulted about anything!).

I don't mind particularly if I look different to the local people, just dont want to stand out too much! I wear florals a lot of the time and always have, even before they were "in". I wore a floral dress to DD's graduation ceremony (in the same country) last year and felt fine.

The Maggie one is lovely.

If you like the Maggie dress then you might look at the Libelula dresses on Wolf & Badger - they have some flattering shapes for ladies our age and several come in a number of pretty prints (and they are silk). Traffic people on there also have some lovely dresses.
