Hearing aid and long hair.

I got a hearing aid back in September. Just my left side.
I don't mind having the hearing aid at all, but I have hair just past my shoulders and find it really rubs on the microphone, which then means I scrape it back and just wear it up. I also am at that point in life where I get stupidly hot and having my hair up helps keep me cool too (I'm 42). I'm in a bit of a slump at the moment and feel very meh about myself.

I'm wondering if any of you have go to hair styles that work with hearing aides?

I don't really want to go short short, which would seem the 'easiest' solution, but I do like having hair to do something with if I want.

I feel like it might be time to do something different and feel like I'm starting to un slump self.

Any wise suggestions?

Hmm, does the hearing aid fit properly?

I've had hearing aids all my life and never had an issue with my hair on the microphone. My hair is almost bum length. I even wear woolly hats that lie against the hearing aids and don't really have a problem.

I'd be tempted to go back to where you got them from and tell them that you're having problems with where the microphone sits maybe?

Ooo interesting. I do wear glasses too and did think I should check they are sitting properly with the hearing aid.

It's so hard because no one else I know has a hearing aid and so you can't bring it up in conversation and realise it is something that shouldn't be like that.

I need to get some more batteries so i'll see if they can check the fitting at the same time.

Thank you.

I have had hearing aids for 8+ years my hair is well below shoulder length and I always wear it down it never interferes with my hearing aids, ( I also wear glasses) I think the aids might be the problem not the hair

@Cottagecheeseisnotcheese Ok! This is reassuring.
Before I do anything drastic then I'll go back and have it checked and see what they can do. Would be amazing to be a simple solution.

Thank you both @BusySittingDown and @Cottagecheeseisnotcheese

I just turn it down a bit, in 46 and had mine about a year and have same issue. I remember the first time I scratched my head. I do wear my hair up mostly but think that you get used to the noises. Maybe it’s not right you can hear your hair I don’t know?

PopGoesBang · 17/02/2025 19:23

@Lemonade2011 it is very tempting to turn it down - I have a two year old too, I'm pretty sure I could hear her crystal clear 200 miles away with my good ear blocked and just my dodgy one listening!

It's so hard knowing what is 'normal' when there is no one to talk to about the issue.

I do find my hair makes a lot of rustling sounds but I'm mostly used to it. I prefer wearing my hair down and I don't notice it all the time. At least with my new ones (old one was NHS) I don't get the awful feedback everytime I needed to tuck my hair behind my ear.
