Face redness. Any experience?

So I have a tendency to redness. Flush/blush easily. Red faced after any exercise.

Tried retinoid and my skin looked great for a while (acne and blemishes gone) but then seems to get worse. Been off for a year and now the redness seems to be permanent. I don't know if the cream made my skin vulnerable to the sun and it's actually damage? Rosacea?

Over the summer I went and had a ferociously expensive v beam treatment, 2 sessions. The doctor diagnosed rosacea and said that 2/3 treatments should sort it.

I can say now that it didn't. Maybe masaaybe 10-20% improvement. I'm not doing that another 4/5 times at £400 a pop.

I've been generally disappointed by face treatments but I did have skin lasering about 10 years ago to remove broken veins which was very effective. Do now I'm considering ipl lumeon treatment. It apparently helps both sun damage and broken veins and rosacea so should cover a number of causes. And it's only £150.

Don't know if anyone has similar story and can advise. Tired of being disappointed and throwing money into this with little improvement.

Stop with retinol immediately - too harsh.
if it is rosacea, try Rosalique.

If it's rosacea go to your doctor and ask for soolantra - it's the only thing which sorted mine after years of trying all kinds of stuff

I use finacea cream for rosacea. I also have brimonidine gel but haven’t ever used it. My only symptom used to be really bad flushing but I have a permanent redness now but I like the way the finacea makes my skin feel and I don’t ever get bumpy spot rosacea. I used the rosalique but i don’t rate it and it irritated my skin.

A couple of friends have had good results with Soolantra. I’ve started using it today as I have a permanent red patch on one side of my face. I also flush badly if it’s been a cold, windy day.

I have rosacea and have so far tried several creams (prescribed by the doctor) but nothing has worked.
Currently trying an antibiotic, however this isn't going to be a long term strategy.
Will follow your post though for anyone with successful treatments!

I have rosacea and use the Dermatica prescription it has Ivermectin, Metronidazole and Azelaic acid it in. It's the best thing I have used after suffering for nearly 30years. No more redness and my skin is so smooth.
I did try and sign up for the anti aging with the tretinoin and Dermatica responded that I needed the rosacea treatment as tretinoin is not suitable.
You can try Dermatica for £2.90 and reduced the next time and I get a discount. It's very easy, a few questions, 3 photos and then review and prescribe your treatment. I use one pump each night and it's a nice texture.

Thanks yes I stopped using it over a year ago.

The things is i'm not sure if it IS rosacea. I have general redness all over my face. Its isnt patchy or bumpy, my neck is a different colour. The V beam treatment that was specifically for rosacea didn't work so its made me think that either that dematologist was bullshit me about the treatment or it isnt rosacea at all.

I will look into soolantra and rosilique

Does soolantra or similar work for "just" redness? That's my main problem too and never sure whether it qualifies as rosacea or not.

Howldens · 11/02/2025 21:27

I think the first thing I would do is make sure the dermatologist was a proper one?

are they a Dr in dermatology, or a cosmetic professional?

im sure the latter can be ok - but can probably also be a bit hit or miss. You need a Dr to diagnose the actual problem - and then prescribe the right treatment.

soolantra / finacea (and maybe Rosalique though I’ve never heard of it) are topical medicines prescribed for rosacea and are the first line of treatment.

See a proper Dr!

My rosacea is mainly “just” redness (some spots / bumpiness now and again). Soolantra (or in my case Finacea which is a similar topical medication) have really helped reduce the redness.

I read that this works well, you can get it on LookFantastic and I’m planning to try it:

I have rosacea and it's mainly just red. Sometimes bumps over my forehead and cheeks. They come and go but I think I'm always red. I tend to forget about it though unless it gets itchy.

I did have a course of antibiotics before my wedding and that worked brilliantly but I don't want to be on antibiotics long term so I just ignore it and carry on.

If you do have rosacea, use soolantra/ivermectin or finacea/azelaic acid. That usually helps the most topically. Skin+Me, Dermatica and Monderma combine them, as described above which I prefer. That way you can also add metronidazole or niacinamide.
