Help me to drink more water!

I read, time and again, that drinking water makes a huge difference to people's skin and overall health and wellbeing. My problem is that I really don't like water and I struggle to drink the recommended amount. I drink tea, coffee and occasionally herbal tea through the day.

It's a habit that I need, and want, to get into and I wondered if anyone had any tips. I really don't want to carry a water bottle around with me all the time but I want to increase my intake (which is currently almost zero).

Is this a serious post 😂

You know it makes you healthy, and you have glorious free access to it via your tap, but because the taste isn't personally wonderfully satisfying, you won't do it?!

Just drink the water.

okydokethen · 09/02/2025 12:27

Start morning with two glasses before your first coffee. I have weak squash in morning but I suspect this is frowned on.

DaisyYellowGold · 09/02/2025 12:27

Make yourself down a pint whenever you are waiting for the kettle to boil.

I struggle to drink water too but have no issue drinking tea by the gallon! I try and drink a pint in one go 2-3 times a day because I absolutely am not a sipping from a bottle throughout the day kind of person. I have weak sugar free squash in it or flavoured fizzy water, not perfect but better than nothing.

See, I think this is the only way it's going to work - I'll have to force it down between other drinks 😆 Maybe I'll grow to like it.

I hate tap water but love sparkling water and can drink it by the gallon. I also drink cordial/squash.

leopardprintanduggs · 09/02/2025 12:40

Have you seen the twinings infusion bags for water? Alternatively how about jazzing it up yourself with some cucumbers, lemons, berries etc? Give yourself a spa experience at home!

Theuniversalshere1 · 09/02/2025 12:41

Herbal tea is going to count towards your intake, coffee and tea are diuretics so won't.

Can you drink more herbal teas? Not green tea, contains caffeine.

Jewelanemone · 09/02/2025 12:41

I'm trying to avoid going down the squash route although I suspect it would help.

It doesn't need to be plain water. You could have squash or juice.

But if it's plain, I find the colder the better. I actually like water anyway, but ice cold is nicer.

FUBAR77 · 09/02/2025 12:42

Have you looked at AirUp as an option? You can also just buy the straws now for like £15 I think so you could try it in a cheaper way to see if you like the flavours

lindyloo57 · 09/02/2025 12:42

I was a doctor on Instagram who said you can get your water from tea, coffee, squash so no need to make yourself drink water.

I could, I really like the Brew Tea Company's blackberry and apple 🍏

Totally agree about the temperature!

I struggle with this too but have done better for the past year. I know down it in one a three times a day, I'm not a sipper at all.

First thing down a glass, then another before lunch and before dinner.

You can get it from tea and coffee, but it isn't as hydrating. It shouldn't be your sole intake for a day.

It's not healthy, but healthier than drinking nothing at all.

Ilovelowry · 09/02/2025 12:46

But it's 2l of liquid, not necessarily water.

I don't understand 'not liking it', I'm thirsty so I drink it.

I always Hve two pints before I leave for work, a couple during the day at work and some in the evening.

I have a glass that I drink from on my desk, I don't use a bottle.

Butterbeanbutterbo · 09/02/2025 12:47

Get a large flask for hot water. Drink herbal teas using water from this flask. Buy nice herbal teas as a treat to get started if you need to. If you dunk your tea bag and take it out, every time you get your mug out for tea, also get out a tea bag saucer (just so the faff doesn’t put you off). Aim to finish the flask by a certain time of day.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 09/02/2025 12:49

It's crazy but I totally get what you mean and I like the taste of water. I find it hard to make sure I drink it 🤷🏻‍♀️ when I finally get to sit down (got young kids) it's always a cup of tea I go for (or a glass of wine!) 😂 I'm going to try having a pint of water when in the kitchen making my cup of tea!

BeachRide · 09/02/2025 12:49

All fluid intake, even the ones with a mildly diuretic effect count. There's nothing magic about plain water. On the contrary, my gastric surgeon advised adding some squash to reduce the surface tension which can irritate the stomach. Drink what you like.

rumkar · 09/02/2025 13:40

Have a glass or bottle with you wherever you are sitting. It tends to become a habit of just something you do, rather than being thirsty. 2-3l a day works wonders.

2025a · 09/02/2025 13:41

Tea and coffee counts towards your water intake.
