Clean Teeth Out and About

Is there such a thing as toothpaste that you don't have to rinse off?

I often have to eat lunch when in my car and I would like to be able to clean my teeth without having to rinse or spit out.

Surely noone cleans their teeth after lunch unless they are going to the dentist?
How about chewing gum?

MissEloiseBridgerton · 07/02/2025 17:11

A bit of chewing gum would be sufficient

NTmumAutisticteenagemeltdowns · 07/02/2025 17:13

Thank you, I had forgotten about these.

Agreed whilst I wouldn't use regularly due to environmental reasons these are so handy to have in case.

Another part of my pre COVID life id forgotten about

Glad I could help! I immediately thought of the little chewable toothbrushes you get (or got in the early 00s) at service stations, but the new versions look much nicer.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 07/02/2025 20:05

I remember the chewable toothbrush, also used to have them in Frankie and Benny's, next to the lube and condom machine.

ExpensiveBiscuits · 08/02/2025 08:37

Thanks so much, @AubernFable .

Yes, I could use gum-thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't actually thought of it (!) but it won't be the same clean feeling. I'll try these first.

Thanks everyone.

@ExpensiveBiscuits, if it's a daily thing then as @AubernFable says it would be far less wasteful to have toothpaste, brush and water with you.

Thighdentitycrisis · 08/02/2025 08:46

I have been told by the hygienist not to rinse after brushing

comeundone · 08/02/2025 08:48

I carry a small makeup bag with toothbrush and paste in it and nip to a bathroom to do mine and aligners when out during the day, I don't think it'd feel the same if I was using a "non-spit" method. I don't like gum much either. It takes two minutes and if I'm ever in the position of someone else using the hand washing facilities, I over-explain, as most people probably think it's a bit odd! Not sure if I'd do the same if mainly driving about and not working from a conventional workplace tho.

This is correct. You shouldn't rinse after brushing.

Simonjt · 08/02/2025 09:10

There aren’t any toothpastes that you rinse off, you can’t clean your teeth for at least 30 minutes after eating, so surely you do it in the toilets at work, rather than wait that long in your car?

I do! I don't like waiting 9 hours or more to get bits of food out of my teeth!

TartanMammy · 08/02/2025 09:59

Lush do chewable toothpaste tablet. I'm sure there are other brands too.

HollyBerryz · 08/02/2025 10:15

I never rinse toothpaste anyway. Dentist said it's better not too. I do spit out excess at the end.

You do realise not everyone works in an office? Some people's work means them being in a vehicle all day.

travailtotravel · 08/02/2025 10:41

Honestly I keep.a travel.toothbrush and flossing harp in my handbag and just water brush for the clean feeling ... if its been garlicky bit of toothpaste but not enough to need to rinse ... just swallow.

Silverstag · 08/02/2025 11:00

You shouldn’t brush teeth straight after eating. You need to wait at least 30 minutes ideally an hour. Chewing gum would be a better option

My mouth doesn’t feel clean if I don’t rinse the foam out.
