Thinking about Wedding Guest attire for August!

LookItsMeAgain · 06/02/2025 21:35

Yes, you read that right - I’m thinking now (in Feb) about what I might wear as a guest to a wedding in August this year and I was thinking about this trouser suit with some sort of blouse/sleeveless top.

What do you think? Will I be melting or will I be ok? Or is it completely wrong?

It just looks so comfy!

Definitely not fr a summer wedding!! Fabric is all wrong.

Moveoverdarlin · 07/02/2025 18:07

The colour is wintery, the fabric is wintery and so is the style.

To be honest there is no point looking now, wait until S/S stock arrives.

If you want a trouser suit then has to be lighter fabric. How about a jumpsuit? You can get various fabric weights/colours so you could for instance go with a plain jumpsuit and top it with a colorful jacket. Where is the wedding - I know weddings in Ireland can be very dressy. I attended one as MOB and one as a guest. For the guest one I found a fairly dressy jumpsuit on Roman of all places and dressed it up with sandals and clutch bag.

Agree with waiting for summer stuff to come in and going for a lighter-weight fabric. A velvet trouser suit seems all wrong for a summer wedding, even if it is freezing in reality. I've been to summer weddings in Ireland and everyone's in dressy summer garb. Shivering outside the church in a cold wind is all part of the fun🙂

I'm all for a velvet suit, but that velvet looks horribly cheap and unpleasant.

LookItsMeAgain · 17/02/2025 18:28

Would this be suitable (not velvet) or is there too much white?

Just looking for some advice

I think it would be, with the right accessories and I personally would go a bit glam with hair and makeup with it

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 18/02/2025 06:53

I can't see any of the items linked to on this thread as the links just take me to the Next app I have on my phone. Can anyone post photos please?

NewHeaven · 18/02/2025 06:57

No that suit is perfect for a winter wedding, not a summer wedding. I'd leave looking for another month while the shops restock for spring.

I tried to post a pic just now. But it says my image is “under review” 🙈

LookItsMeAgain · 18/02/2025 11:28

I can see that image now @TriangleLight, thanks for posting it.

OP, I'm thinking already about an August wedding NEXT YEAR! (My DDs though, so I need to forward plan) and my idea is to wait until the weather warms up a bit - maybe May - before I seriously look. I suffer from 'it's cold today and I cannot imagine ever being warm again' so I would be likely to buy a dress with sleeves, jacket, probably thermal underthings if I bought now.

LookItsMeAgain · 18/02/2025 11:43

The concern I have about waiting is that by the time the summer/autumn stuff comes in, the clothes in my size are in short supply so I tend to have to buy either last season's stuff after the season (so in the sale as it's what is left) or the minute something comes in (so full price).

I'm a size 20/22 and busty with it and lots of styles only go to an 18 or so, which is why I'm trying to plan ahead as early as I can. I find buying on-line sometimes as awkward as trying to find something in a store.

Oh, and to add to that, I'm really really not a dress kinda woman.

What sort of shoes you thinking with the jumpsuit, @LookItsMeAgain ?

And I might put a real belt round it rather than the tie one, I have a stretchy one that’s comfortable but also smart over a black jumpsuit I have.

Maybe a chunky cuff bracelet?

LookItsMeAgain · 18/02/2025 16:19

I was thinking of a little kitten heel or perhaps a wedge heel.

I like the idea of the jewellery suggestion there @TriangleLight ...

The suit is a beautiful colour but you’d be roasting in the summer! The jumpsuit might not be dressy enough. This has a bit more about it but might not be to your taste.

TriangleLight · 18/02/2025 19:41

either of those shoe choices sounds good @LookItsMeAgain. I’m also a fan of a sandal with a block heel for a bit of
style whilst still comfortable for a whole day.

I think it would definitely be dressy enough, and weddings up here are pretty glam (Scotland)
