Will public hair return? - Waxing

lordmadresfield · 02/02/2025 17:09

I've had a look online and cannot find a reliable answer to this question. I've been waxing for years and get very little hair regrowth. However, I'd quite like a change! Will the hair ever return, or is it is gone for good? I know I will just have to wait and see and I will, but I thought I'd ask in case anyone has any knowledge of this they can share!

Anyone got any experience of similar?

I wouldnt get it out in public!
Depends if you've damaged the hair follicles as to whether you'd get regrowth all over

lordmadresfield · 02/02/2025 17:10

That's should read pubic!

I'm assuming I have! Will the hair follicles regenerate or no?

I read this wrongly as: Will pubic hair return?

Not a bad thought though. Will we every see a bush again like the ones from 1970s films???

poetryandwine · 02/02/2025 17:13

I can’t quite answer that question. But after about 20 years of waxing the hair on my legs is pretty much gone. And it was lush.

Except that bit of inner thigh bordering the bikini area, which is barely less stubborn now.

Gave ne a giggle

ChangingHistory · 02/02/2025 17:43

I did full removal for about 10 years and it's all there now 15 years later but I must admit I didn't pay much attention to how it was growing over that time - kids.

SirQuintusAurelius · 02/02/2025 18:10

Probably not. If you have been waxing for years, waxing pulls the hair out by the follicle so over time repeatedly will weaken or damage the hair follicle. It won't happen to all the follicles but enough to result in a very sparse patchy growth.

So no you won't get it back the way it was, but it won't be hair free.

lordmadresfield · 02/02/2025 18:27

Ok so some have regrown but over a very long period but sounds like it will never grow back fully. I may have to find a new dream if a 70s bush is off the table...

I don't know about public hair, but I hope pubic does.

JC03745 · 02/02/2025 18:32

I only had the lot waxed twice, but the bikini line and mons I had done more often. Those areas have never grown back, so my hairline there starts very low down now.

StarlightLady · 02/02/2025 18:36

I’m too late for any public hair jokes it seems. I’ve had long term Hollywood waxes on a regular basis and l still get regrowth in between.

I wish l didn’t but that’s another story. I’d like it gone forever.

Yea, I've enjoyed many years of a virtually bald mons I suppose but now I feel like a change!

OP- if it doesn't grow back, you could always get a merkin! 😆

Mammyloveswine · 02/02/2025 18:58

The amount of blokes I've dated who admit to loving a bush has made now think "fuck it"... but I use hair removal cream rather than wax so I don't think it's as damaging!

I know generally just let kind grow then trim or veet depending on preference of whoever im dating (I don't mind either way tbh!).

I had a wax last week and I was too busy chatting and she took my tiny bit of regrowth off so I'm back to square one. I'll see what happens over the next few months.

It's never too late.

Based solely on my experience of hacking away at Ground Elder for several months with no discernable improvement, I would say you'll be fine. 👍

VWT5 · 02/02/2025 21:17

To anyone using a Philips Lumea/ IPL or similar - I would say make sure you get it all done well before theres a chance of greys appearing.

(I wasn’t determined enough, and grey’s can’t be treated - so a mess).

OTOH - if you add testosterone gel to your HRT regime - well that seems to get things growing again…

WattleTyler · 02/02/2025 21:19

Sadly, yes. I’ve been having a Hollywood wax for about 20 years. It still grows back.

What a shame. Pubic hair is lovely- but hairy legs are pretty erotic too. Don't get me started on armpits.

100% the testosterone has brought my full 70s bush back to its former glory, albeit a bit grey! It was looking quite sad and depleted for a few years before HRT.

i trimmed/shaved the edges for the first time in ages this week to try and tidy it up but its so itchy!! Why does anyone do this?

I’m heartened to hear that it may make a come back in terms of acceptability, but luckily my DP doesn’t mind either way. TMI but when its longer its easier for him to push it out of the way rather than get a faceful of stubble!
