Why is one part of my hair always tatty/ knotting?

This started happening about three years ago. Part of my hair, the highest point at the back of the skull (just after where an Alice band would sit), is ALWAYS tatty/ knotting. When I'm brushing it out, it takes about two minutes with a Tangle Teezer, plus lots of falling hair, to fix it. It's particularly bad after showering.

Any ideas?

How do you wear your hair?

Is it curlier than the rest of your hair? That section in particular can develop a curly habit during adulthood. If you can afford it, I'd suggest consulting a really good hairdresser.

A more mundane suggestion might be that you simply aren't rinsing that hair as thoroughly - could happen if you usually drop the hair forwards to wash it.

You aren't brushing your hair wet, are you? Don't! Try using detangling spray before combing it.

Hair that frequently becomes tatty or knotted can be caused by several factors, including hair texture, damage, or lack of proper care. If one section of your hair is more prone to tangling, it might be due to dryness, split ends, or the way you sleep (e.g., friction from your pillow).
To minimize knots, try these tips:

  1. Hydrate Your Hair: Use a moisturizing conditioner regularly.
  2. Detangle Gently: Use a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush, starting from the ends and working up to the roots.
  3. Protect at Night: Sleep on a silk pillowcase or wrap your hair in a satin scarf to reduce friction.
  4. Apply a Quality Product: A lightweight gel or styling product can help keep your hair smooth and manageable.
For a great product that helps lock in moisture and reduce tangling, check out Loc N Gel. It’s perfect for keeping your hair looking and feeling its best!

This happens to me! Always the same spot! I never noticed that it was happening until a hairdresser commented I must have had a very good night wink wink (and I was very single back then) and then I've sort of noticed it ever since then.

My theory is that it must be the way I brush my hair. It all causes it to accumulate in that spot. Or maybe how I sleep. I sleep with my hair out usually.
