online fashioin clinic? I fail to beleive you're not somehow involved in it cod....

Highlander · 08/05/2008 10:21

Liz Earle says that moisturizer with SPF is useless, since sunblock needs to be reapplied every hour to be effective.

She reckons regular moisturiser with a specific sunblock on top, when you need it.

Highlander · 08/05/2008 10:22

have ordered her starter kit, since the other thread reckoned cleanser nice. Eve Lom stuff wank (moisturiser, cleansder OK)

I like Origins Outsmart. It's only spf25 but smells lovely and lemony and hasn't given me any spots.

I also just rub any residue into my face once I've creamed the children so I'm probably not the best guide as to whether SPF25 is enough! (The children's sunscreens are inclined to make me spotty though.)

Ooh, I was just going to mention the Dr Hauschka cream. The protective face cream is only SPF 8 but does OK for the amount I'm out in the sun and (most importantly) I LOVE using it as it smells so great! However am thinking I'll share DS's Dr Hauschka suncream, as that's SPF 30. Not sure whether it will be greasy for facial use though, am going to try it now (just when the lovely Scottish sun has faded away...)

NumptyMum · 09/05/2008 10:15

oops, sorry for odd bold type in above post, didn't realise that's what stars did to type...

BBBee · 09/05/2008 10:18

was going to say what jackie said - city block - i think this is more than just a moisturiser with spf - i think it is great.

BBBee · 09/05/2008 10:20

clinique city block that is link

towncalledmalice · 09/05/2008 10:30

Vichy Capital Soleil Sun Block Cream SPF50 for Face + Exposed Areas is v. good. not at all greasy. Vichy fake tan also good esp. suits my pale skin.
Use City Block as tinted moisturiser in summer at home but would need more protection in sunnier climes methinks.

Clarins UV Plus Protective Day Screen is a block that goes over your moisturiser and under makeup. Its factor 40, (the higher the better for me, a freckly redhead), non greasy, and seems to work a bit like a primer. Looks good, and I think works.

Their Factor 30 face anti-wrinkle suncream is good too, but if you wear makeup (like me) its a bit greasy.

Am briefly flirting with Becca SPF primer (factor 30) but not that impressed - seems to be drying my skin out. I was seduced by the boast of Australian sunscreen technology.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 09/05/2008 12:04

I beg to differ over the SPF in moisturisers doesn't work theory. I have use tinted Neutrogena moisturiser with a SPF of 30 for 7 years now. It has proved its effectiveness during a five-month spell living in Dubai, and numerous holidays in SW Florida. In fact, it is all I have ever put on my face, apart from one memorable occasion when I bought a special high-factor facial sunscreen which left me almost disfigured with lumps and bumps and facial swelling that took several days to go down. Now it's Neutrogena all the way.

Swaliswan · 09/05/2008 14:26

I work in the local dermatology day unit so I have to be a good girl and make sure I wear sun screen. It would be extremely to turn up at work sunburnt. Anyway, I slap on the factor 50+ ambre solaire kids stuff that I put on DD and it seems fine as long as you take care to regularly cleanse your face. However, one of my colleagues swears by sunsense daily face which is spf 50+ but is not at all greasy like most sunscreens available in the UK. It is also tinted so you don't get that shiny face look most sunscreens give you. We have some samples on the department and it does seem popular. Sunsense was developed in Australia and is very popular out there.

Another yay for Clinique City Block.

cheeryface · 09/05/2008 15:58

I quite like the Body Shop Vitamin E one
Body Shop

Smells nice (roses) - v important! Only Factor 15 so not enough for prolonged strong sunshine - I wouldn't voluntarily put my face in the sun for very long anyway though being pale and wimpy.

Yes, re having to reapply every hour, that kind of rules out wearing make-up then, otherwise you'd spend the entire day in and out of the loo cleansing and reapplying An application of the SPF moisturiser in the morning then make-up usually lasts pretty well on me.

NappiesGalore · 14/05/2008 21:37

ive got crappy old simple one, picked up in local smallish waitrose. s'alright i guess but am v keen to see your deductions on this cod.

so far like the sounds of dermalogica, sunsense, clarins, gatinuea and neutrogena. will your testing be exhaustive cod? do you need a tester?

PixelHerder · 15/05/2008 10:42

oh yes Simple moisturisers are nice, this is the one I used last summer I think and it was good (and bargainacious)
Simple

I've had a malignant melanoma removed, 2 inche scar and a big scare due to have 3 more moles removed next week . I use Heliocare Gel factor 90 on my face and i love it, it's slightly tinted and non greasy, cover up girls it's just not worth the risk as it can be serious if not treated in time
