Massage and sleep - spa

I wasn’t sure where to put this…

I want to book a full body massage and facial, and want to be allowed to stay on the massage bed when I fall asleep - for as long as I want, and just be allowed to continue to sleep. Does anywhere allow you to do this?

I have been for the same treatments before and I doze off, only to be awoken at the end and asked to return to the lounger area - on two occasions this happened in day spas, and I truly believed that in spas you would be left in your blissful sleep!

Please recommend me anywhere where you have been able to do this!

Could you get someone to come to your home to provide a message and then leave you to sleep.
You would need another adult around to show them out.

Blueberry911 · 01/02/2025 08:26

Why did you believe you would be left in blissful sleep, on a massage table needed for the next customer?

Some fancy spa hotels will do massages in the bedrooms, maybe you could do some looking into that option?

" Hello Madam , I'm sorry your massage is 4 hours late , we let our previous client take a nap as they looked so comfy "
Hopefully your not several clients in as your never likely to get a massage on the right day !

Ooo a home massage might be a good idea as PP have said, unless they bring their own table in which case they might need it back 😂

Do you have any nice hotels nearby? When I've stayed in 5* hotels, there's often been an in room service available for treatments - I wonder if you'd booked the room, they'd happily leave you sleeping post treatment?

Puppylucky · 01/02/2025 08:42

I'm a massage fiend and have self indulgently booked massages both at home and when staying in a hotel. It's definitely a more relaxing experience, but there will inevitably be a massage table involved, which the masseuse will need back - they won't just do it on any flat surface. In a hotel especially though, it's the work of seconds to slip into bed for a post treatment nap - or even better have a warm bath.

madamweb · 01/02/2025 08:46

You surely understand they can't leave you there all day?

I agree, book a home massage. Arrange for someone to be there to let the person out.

Or try a yoga nidra recording, it always puts me into that lovely deep sleep

madamweb · 01/02/2025 08:47

Or you could book 4 or 5 massage treatments in a row?

Just thought, a home massage wouldn't work unless you provide your own massage bed

User7288339 · 01/02/2025 08:49

What made you think you could stay on the massage table as long as you want 🤣
I think you’d have to pay for 4 appointments if you wanted that!

Overthebow · 01/02/2025 08:57

Well obviously they won’t leave you to sleep on the massage bed as they will need it for the next appointment. You could book two back to back appointments if you want them to leave you to sleep a bit after your massage finishes.

Vinvertebrate · 01/02/2025 09:04

I’ve been to a spa where they just move you onto a heated sunbed type thing, so it’s easy to fall asleep again.

CorduroySituation · 01/02/2025 09:06

This is nuts. If you're on the table, you're paying for the time. They need the room for other customers, to make money. They are a business, they won't have spare rooms or tables, if they are any good they will be fully booked back to back all day long.

(I have worked in hotels with spas. The speed with which therapists can turn a room around with all new clean towels, neat and fresh, for the next customer is truly amazing, should be an Olympic sport and makes Aldi cashiers look like tortoises Grin).

Other options have been offered - home massage, hotel massage (although you'd need to get off the table into bed). I've never heard of anyone buying an extra treatment just to sleep, that is an expensive way to nap.

IDontHateRainbows · 01/02/2025 09:17

If you have the money you could book an extra session and sleep during that time, but it seems a terrible waste of money to me.

SprinkleOfSunak · 02/02/2025 09:22

I really, genuinely had been under the impression that the massage tables would have wheels on them (a little like a hospital bed), so you could be wheeled to another room where you could continue to sleep - like maybe to the spa area next to the pool.

I also thought there would be enough massage tables available for them to allow for the above to happen, especially in the larger and more expensive spas, so they’d just put another massage table in the therapy room after I‘d left so the next person could have their massage.

I know a lot of you seem astounded that I had thought this would happen, but surely many of you could see that the massage experience would be greatly improved if this was the case?

SprinkleOfSunak · 02/02/2025 09:26

Maybe, as some of you have posted, I could get a massage at home or in a hotel on a table beside my bed and be briefly awoken so I can transfer into it - that’s a good idea.

I’m still really surprised that nowhere seems to offer the service I expected existed - I truly thought it would happen in the most expensive spas and was considering investing in a day in one but I won’t bother now if I can’t be left to sleep!

I see where you are coming from @SprinkleOfSunak and I agree, being able to continue on snoozing post massage without moving would be amazing

SprinkleOfSunak · 02/02/2025 11:37

@madamweb

It would be amazing!

I think especially after seeing how sensational some of these spas and retreats look, and how much it costs to spend time there, that this could be an option in at least some of them.

I really, genuinely had been under the impression that the massage tables would have wheels on them (a little like a hospital bed),

Two reasons this wouldn't work.

The pressure a good massage therapist can apply can be seriously a LOT - the wheels would need to be amazingly strongly locked to avoid the entire table moving rapidly across the room and crashing into the wall!

Secondly the spa/hotel would not want to be responsible for a seriously sleeping person left alone and vulnerable in a public area - can you imagine the furore if someone was sexually assaulted? At least if they walk you back to a rest area, it's then your choice if you sleep or not.

And not all Spas are very secure - if the receptionist is distracted, people can easily slip in. This is why therapists have lockers elsewhere to keep their own valuables in and why guests are advised not to bring valuables to these leisure areas.
