Are these still a good purchase

I have been wanting to treat myself to these Ugg's. I've seen a lot of people wearing them. It's quite an expensive purchase for me but I want to check with you good MN's if they are still 'in'. I am trying to rehash my wardrobe, go from skinny jeans and boots to bootcut or wide leg jeans and these but have I missed the boat.

(Also I am 47 and worried they may be for a younger person)

Any opinions are welcome - but please be kind, I know I can wear what I want but I don't want to fork out for these if everyone is going to be wearing something more up to date in 6 weeks time.

Uggs from Deckers are garbage, they don't last. The sheepskin lining is no longer 100% sheepskin and wears out quickly. Go for the original Uggs who can't now use that name due to Deckers taking legal action. You can find the originals here: https://www.uggsince1974.com.au/ Made in Australia rather than the Far East.

I had no idea about this!

Admittedly, I'm no fan but this French fashion influencer was wearing them last week.

😂I thought she had a dressing gown on and her trousers tucked in her socks

She does look like she washed her hair at the swimming pool and is rushing home in her dressing gown to blow dry it.

Doggymummar · 31/01/2025 07:42

I don't wear uggs but my nieces had Taz for Christmas for slippers, not outdoors.

Op as I said they're not my style but they are current/on trend.

Yes! US Uggs have stolen the Australian Ugg name but are much poorer quality and won’t last. These are the originals: www.uggsince1974.com.au

To my eyes the rickrack embellishment on the Uggs is always going to make them look like rather twee slippers rather than louche outdoor wear. Fine for entertaining at home in your best Plumo loungewear though.

I’m in a relatively well dressed city and cool people of all ages are wearing

Furry Birkenstocks

all year round - with thick socks and rolled hem wide jeans right now. They are admittedly much more expensive full price - but they seem always to be available reduced, somewhere.

Definitely don’t think the Uggs would work well with wide legged jeans.

Does it not rain where you are? I love the idea of a furry Birk but my feet (and the thick socks) would be completely soaked.

I think people maybe look out if the window, or check their weather app, before deciding on footwear …

@Lykia that poor woman reminds me of a long ago time when I (from a different college) had to go to Peterhouse college for IIRC Criminal Law supervisions. I had an en-suite - but used to arrive in the morning to the sight of young men in dressing gowns scampering across the quad to get to a bathroom …

ThermoMetrics · 31/01/2025 09:14

I had some (genuine) Uggs first time round. There was no support for my feet and it really encouraged over pronation.
Last year I saw some of the 'tributes' and got myself a pair from Next but I just wear them as slippers (that you can nip outside to the bin in). I was in Primark earlier this week and they've got really cheap versions. Obvs the tributes are not real suede- just man-made fibres, but they are very comfortable and warm slippers for winter.
I've seen a few of the local college kids wearing them (my barometer of what is in fashion!) with their obligatory baggy jeans.

TheOGCCL · 31/01/2025 09:35

Uggs had a big moment, then went out and are having another moment. I think they are like DMs, they are sometimes more fashionable, sometimes less but the company clearly continues to sell their shoes regardless through the years.

Uggs and wide legs are in, it’s the latest take on ‘it’s now fine to wear your home comfies out’, the relentless casualisation of clothing that makes newsreaders and weather presenters look like they live on a different planet.

I don’t like that look at all but it’s definitely in right now.

And every time I look out the window or on my weather app it's actively raining, or has rained recently so there are puddles everywhere..! I suspect from PP's username she's near me! A long way north of Cambridge tbf.

OP, I hate the wearing-slippers-outside trend so admittedly may not have an unbiased opinion. But I wouldn't bother buying them now if you're only just trying to freshen up your wardrobe. I think they'll look dated quickly. IMO you'd be better getting the boots UGG Classic Ultra Mini Platform Boot for Women | UGG® UK. They won't date as quickly and you'll be able to get use out of them even if/when the trend passes. If wearing with bootcuts wear over the boot rather than trying to tuck in a la 2008.

CharlotteCChapel · 31/01/2025 12:48

If you want to wear them just be aware that detractors call them horse's hooves slippers.

The style is so ubiquitous you can get them from a company that took the company that popularised the brand ( an American company bought the name) to court for still having ugg in their name. It was ugg plus the year they were founded..

SheridansPortSalut · 31/01/2025 13:14

I see a lot of that style of Uggs on teenagers and uni students. Not so much on people over about 23. Make of that what you will.

Fingeronthebutton · 31/01/2025 15:00

Still popular in ASDA in Shoeburyness.

NoCarbsForMe · 31/01/2025 17:16

Ugg boots are being worn by 16yr olds round here (London)

NoCarbsForMe · 31/01/2025 17:17

Pleased to hear skinnies are coming back 🙌

creamsnugjumper · 31/01/2025 18:29

I grabbed some from nee look for £15 to see if I'd wear them with the intention of upgrading to uggs and 2 months later I'm still in my cheap ones.

BuntyCollocks · 31/01/2025 20:41

I LOVE mine. I have black and chestnut. Have worn them to every sort of occasion 🤣 they’re warm, comfy, definitely fashionable and I genuinely don’t give a shit even if they weren’t. You can wear with or without socks.

@theressomanytinafeysicouldbe I just popped on because I remembered reading this thread last week.

Just been up to London and literally every female under 20 was wearing massive wide leg jeans with some sort of Ugg style shoe or boot. My station is very close Bedales school amongst others so that might sway things. I noticed a good amount of older females also in similar but there were trainers and clumpy boots in the mix with that demographic.

Saturdaynightlive · 02/02/2025 17:38

I didn't like Tazz. I felt like I had to grip my toes in a claw like fashion to keep them on. I went with classic ultra mini instead. I love them and wear them pretty much every day.

theressomanytinafeysicouldbe · 28/02/2025 14:25

I've bit the bullet and have just ordered them in a lighter colour, thought they were more spring like

I've ordered some lighter bootcut jeans and a long checked shirt and some oversized jumpers

I've also ordered some slouchy socks so I can wear with leggings and cream wool jumper dress I have.

If they look horrendous when they arrive I will return them
